OK guys so iv successfully dumped my nand, installed XBR, got my drive key & cpu key.

Now it comes to freeboot..

Iv been following the alternative JTAG & SMC tutorial

With in the tutorial it quotes I should use XBR to freeboot tool..

Although my CB aint listed using that tool so an alternative method of installing freeboot is to use JTag Tool.

So iv installed JTag tool updated JTAG tool's SMC with my own..

Iv input my CPU key, hit create bin.. select my XBR dump and I recieve an error:

"Error: Could not find file "sysupdate.xexp1".
ERROR: Unhandled exception."

"ERROR: File "data\crl.bin.meta" could not be opened.
ERROR: I/O error."

What am I doing wrong ?

I know JTAG is meant to be idiot proof.. but id rather be safe then sorry then trying to figure it out for myself.

Not familiar with this error, but when creating freeboot with the altered smc points you should use the original NAND dump as the source and not the XBR image. comprende? :D

Are you sure you put the correct SMC file(decrypted SMC extracted from the working XBR image) in the "SMC" folder and it was named according to your motherboard revision?

I'm not entirely sure to be honest.. Iv used the smc from earlier on in the tutorial like it has said..

Could you supply the steps I should take to ensure I'm using the correct smc?

From my understanding I put the working XBR.bin into the Update-My-SMC tool folder..

Open the DumpSMC-ANY_Image.exe, follow the prompts.. then copy the falcon.bin into the JTAG tool directory ?

Can anyone confirm these steps ?

Correct. Copy and replace the falcon.bin already present in the "SMC" folder within the Jtag Tool folder.

OK, I just attempted this.. and agian E79 ! XBR works fine.. could it be a problem with my original dump ?

Im starting to think thats whats going on.. I have the JTAG QSB switch in the center.. from my understanding this shouldnt matter..

Send me your Original NAND and CPU Key. I will make a freeboot image for you. See if it works for you.

By the way, did you have any bad blocks in the original NAND dump ?

Thank you very much for your patience, time & great advice.. also for writing your tutorial, which I must say being someone who hadn't used an xbox up until now, if you hadn't noticed.. :p it was very understandable and clear.

Are there any other freeboot features I should be aware of ?

You should be aware, that your xbox can run xex applications. These applications can be anything. Games, Emulators, Nand flashers and all kinds of stuff. First you will need to put Freestyle dash (2.0alpha or the stable 1.20 release) on your INTERNAL HDD There are plenty of tutorials, but feel free to ask. With freestyle dash, you can boot these .xex files from your external hdd.
This should be good to get you started. The alpha release is not all stable, but i think many are using it with no problems. I recommend having the stable 1.20 release, and then 2.0 as an app you can boot from freestyle 1.20. Freestyle dash is an xex file too.

Thank you very much for your post, I was reading something similar called XexLoader.. not sure if they do the same thing.. I need to invest in a harddrive, I bought this xbox from ebay which sadly didnt include the harddrive.. So I might have to invest $20 into a 20gb harddrive and throw all my xex's onto a portable harddrive and go from there. Does freestyle dash work the same as XeXloader installing a game onto your xbox harddrive that you then run to boot xex's off the portable harddrive ?

Are there any other alternatives that list the games on your portable harddrive in your game libary automatically.. ?
Or for this feature you would have to copy them over to your xbox internal harddrive ?

Yes, Either an internal harddrive, or you could Internalize your harddrive.
This is also possible (i think) in a no-solder way. But that would require the normal hdd connector wire like this

Also, You will need an external power supply for your hdd. and a sata extender.
It is eaiser to just solder, i would think..

Oh, and definately go for Freestyle dash!
Edit: If your HDD is 2.5'', you can just plug it in your xbox with the hdd connector. No supply or extender needed

Or you can first get an original 20GB Xbox360 HDD. Then get a 2.5" Laptop HDD of any size e.g. 500GB, open the 20GB HDD's case and replace the 20GB HDD with 500GB and format it with the Xbox360. Then you will have an Xbox360 HDD with 500GB of space.

Yes, ofcourse. In this case, if you dont need the 20GB hdd, you can just buy a cheap case off eBay. I use both an external and internal Hdd. The internal is needed for profiles, gamesaves, Godfiles (and emulators), and the external for the games themselves. The external is easy to plug in to the computer with either sata or usb cables, because it is formatted with FAT32. The internal HDD will need a special xbox file system (FATx?), and it wont be that easy to connect it. I had no luck using the apps for this. I think they are only for stock HDDs. Perhaps there is a way, but i dont know it at least. If you are only gonna use an internal drive, you can FTP to the xbox or move files from a usb drive.

I put a samsung 500gb in my MS caddy. All I did was format the drive in fat32, put it in the ms caddy and plugged it into the 360. Formatted it like a normal 360 HDD and it works a charm. Doing it like this though will only give you partion 3 which acts like partion 1. This means you cant have xbox 1 games as they need to be on partiton 2. There is a TUT Ive seen somewhere showing you how to create the other two partitions.
