Very interesting, I like the internal & external hdd combo.. did a bit of research on the dashes also freestyle is crazy good compared to XeXLoader.

Think I might get a 20gb off ebay for profiles..and get me a 750gb portable a friend of mine can pick them up for cheap.

So I pretty much install freestyle dash onto my internal harddrive, throw my xex's onto my portable.. and they load up automatically on freestyle right? I obviously need to boot into freestyle tho.

Well yeah. But Freestyle will only boot the files, that you put in specified folders. You can ofcourse edit all these in a config file. When you put these organized in the correct folders, everything will be organized in categories in freestyle as well. Take a look at the config:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<config>
<paths>
<xbox360>
<path>usb0:\Games\</path>
<path>hdd1:\Games\</path>
</xbox360>
<xbox1>
<path>usb0:\XBox1\</path>
</xbox1>
<homebrew>
<path>usb0:\apps\</path>
<path>hdd1:\apps\</path>
<path>usb0:\applications\</path>
<path>hdd1:\applications\</path>
</homebrew>
<emulators>
<path>usb0:\Emulators\</path>
<path>hdd1:\Emulators\</path>
<path>usb0:\Emu\</path>
<path>hdd1:\Emu\</path>
</emulators>
<xboxlive>
<path>usb0:\Content\</path>
<path>hdd1:\Content\</path>
</xboxlive>
</paths>
<skin>NXE (List)</skin>
<display horizoverscan="0" vertoverscan="0" />
<ftp xboxip="0.0.0.0" port="21" username="xbox" password="xbox" />
<gamelistopt background='1' preview='1' />
<mainscreenopt tempstatus='1' diskstatus='1' celsius='1' parent='0' showip='1' />
<timeformat time='0' date='0' />
</config>
So make these folders on yor external (or internal) HDD, and put all the stuff you want in it :).
Freestyle looks a little bit sh*tty to start with (at least 1.20 does). Therefor, you might want to add brand new skins. Take a look at www.spiffy360.com. skins can be placed in the "skin" folder.

Thank you very much for your help & advice.. I look forward to getting myself a decent sized harddrive and going nuts..

Also I just finished ripping my first game, Does freestyle boot .isos or .dvds ? Or do you have to install the game on HDD on the xbox ?

You ca do several things.

1) CopyDVD. this feature is built in with freestyle. Makes you able to boot your games without your dvds inserted
2)GODfiles. You can use the app called "ISO2GOD" to make your games bootable from your internal only (i believe). These games will be placed in your content folder just like the XBLA games.
3) Extract iso and patch .xex. There is a lot of apps out there for extracting isos. You cannot use anything like WINrar to do this. Example
After you have extracted your iso, you will need to patch your xexfiles with an app i can never remmember the name of. Will edit later. Then you just create a folder in "USB0:\Games\" Called whatever the game is called.

A new version JUST came out of the above example. Link has been updated.

I also want to look into get freestyle dash booting up as the default.. Waiting on a harddrive...

Yes, If you use the CopyDVD feature, the game can only be run using FSD or XeXMenu.

If you want to boot directly into FSD without booting into NXE, search for DashLaunch v0.1

This is how I got autobooting into freestyle dash to work

- create bin with Freeboot Toolbox Maker 2.4 by BestPig
__ paste cpu key
__ select Dashlaunch 1.0 patches nand
__ select Autodetect motherboard
__ select Dump Directory
__ select Freeboot.bin
__ select Generate Freeboot

-Flash this freeboot image to your xbox ( I renamed it updflash and put it on the root of a usb drive and used xellous to reflash)

- download Dash Launch v1.0 for 9199
- download Patch Pack V5

- copy launch.ini and launch.xex from inside PP5 -> Freestyle Launch folder
- paste those inside the "flash_installer" folder which is in the D.L.v.1.0 folder, replacing the launch.xex which was already in there
- edit the .ini to "LHdd" or "LUsb" as needed for the path of your freestyle.xex
- copy "flash_installer" folder from D.L. download on to usb/hdd
- copy .ini onto the root of drive

- with drive attached, power on 360 and launch xexmenu or freestyle dash
- navigate to flash_installer folder
- inside folder, launch default.xex
- flash nand (takes a split second)
- reboot the console, DO NOT go back to the dash

And that's it. Freestyle is auto booting . I used the launch.xex that comes with Dash Launch Freestyle and it didnt boot, only NXE did. Using the launch.xex from the patch pack works.

Thank you for the reply, Although im using alternate jtag smc points, Does freeboot toolbox maker allow me to edit a freeboot image ? or do I need to make it from scratch ? If I have to make it from scratch does it allow me to upload custom smcs's like JTAG tool ?

Freeboot toolbox does not give the option to choose a custom SMC file.

But I have an easier alternative for you. Since you would still have the Jtag Tool folder set up with custom SMC and all, all you need to do is to copy the new Patch files to the "bin" folder within the Jtag Tool folder and also replace the old Patch files present within the "XB1" and "Mem" folder. Then create a new freeBOOT image just like you did before and write the image to the console. Now you will have a freeBOOT image with new patches installed on your Xbox360 ;).

No, Patch Pack V5 is something you don't need. What you need are the patches included with DashLaunch v1.0. That's all.

O excellent ! OK just to verify what im going to do. I rename the new patch files as "falcon.bin" & replace the files with in XB1 & mem, and I add the file to the /bin folder also ?

Copy all the patch files for all motherboards to these folders and replace the ones already present there.

OK I successfully wrote to my nand with the updated patches for freeboot, although when it comes to getting freestyle auto booting im sadly not having much luck.. iv set up my lauch.ini as follows:

launch.ini said:
[QuickLaunchButtons]
BUT_X = Usb1:\Freestyle\default.xex
Default = Usb1:\Freestyle\default.xex
I have freestyle its in owns folder on the usb its its own folder.

I have launched default.xex using XexLoader and wrote it to flash.

Although like I said im not having much luck.. Any ideas ?

Where have you put the launch.ini? You should copy it to the USB drive and if you have an original Xbox360 HDD hooked up, copy launch.ini to it too.

Also, are you sure you have named the correct USB? I mean it could be USB0 instead of USB1.

I'v got the launch.ini in the root of my USB stick, although I have two USB's connected at the same time.. Could this be preventing boot ? I'm certain the path is correct, double checked that.. Think I might triple check just incase. I'v also ran default.xex and flashed launch.xex & launch.ini.

Iv tryed running launch.xex assuming it would redirect to freestyle although I received an error quoting the game is not compatible.

Well, the only thing left to try is to use the original Xbox360 HDD and see if putting the launch.ini there works.

You have to put the launch.ini in the root of your official Xbox360 HDD(called as HDD1 in XeXMenu). Then see if it works.
