Atleast when I started to use DashLauch v1.0, it mattered. That's why I am telling you to try this as well.
As for the numbering of the USB, use XeXMenu to identify the exact number of the USB as it is recognized by the Xbox. Then edit the launch.ini according to it. Also, try to hook up only one USB at a time and see if it makes a difference.
