Hi,

Yesterday my friend gave me his Xbox 360 with Falcon V2 mobo (white one with 20GB HDD) with quick power led flashing problem. It occured that he fried up his drive (there is even a hole through DVD's mobo...), most probably by connecting it's power upside down. Now dvd is dead and he don't have a DVD Key, is there any option to recover this key somehow?

You can recover it by Reset Glitch Hacking It (RGH) with a CoolRunner and J R Programmer.
There are many comprehensive guides here but if you are just wanting the DvD Key it is probably gonna be cheaper to send it off to someone else as you need a good level of soldering and it will cost around £40 in parts.

Okay, I'll be able to do this on my own, I worked in mobile phone service for a while so soldering is my thing :)

I understand that buying CoolRunner Rev C (like this one) won't be enough to RGH it?

What other hardware do I need?

I was planning to RGH my Xbox Elite anyway, so after reading this one's key I would transplant RGH to other phat xbox, there won't be a problem with that?

What's the best replacement for this drive? Same one or another model of Lite-On?

Things you need:

--coolrunner rev c, or b or a(read the guides)

--nand-x or jr programmer(little cheaper but slower to read/write)(dont forget to install the appropriate driver's)(read the guides)

--jr programmer app for your pc.

-- at least a 15 watt soldering iron, good flux, thinnest solder you can find.

As far as the lite on goes:

Any phat lite on drive will be fine I believe. The fw is the same for all phat lite on's now anyway.

You still need a way to get flash the key to the drive too:

---x360usbpro v2 or x360usbpro v1 and a ck3i

or do this:

--after you rgh it install fusion and use pair dvd drive tool to set up the new dvd drive. Not absolutely sure this will work but it's suppose to. May have to leave it rgh'd though in order for this to work.

It's going to cost you alot up front to do this. If you only plan on doing 1 or 2 console's you might want to send it to somebody that has all the tool's already. But than again that's no fun.

@up I would really like to, but I'm from Poland so both way postage cost would make it unprofitable :/

if your drive is a benq drive i would get another benq drive because they are the first to get the new firmware if everybody is waiting.

No problem, your location wasn't listed. I do not do international service orders anyway, only sales.

Hope you get this worked out, however note that if your only needing to get the key from just this XBOX that buying all the stuff to RGH it just to get the key, plus a new drive, exceeds the value of the XBOX, and then some.

I don't think so, CoolRunner + JR Programmer + postage = $60 (more or less) and I can get drive for $35 so it's still less than new unit :)
