I need major help. If anyone can direct me somewhere for it, it would be much appreciated. I am a total noob to this, so of course, i messed it up and did not do enuff research. I have researched for 3 days now, with no luck. Now i am finally asking for help, and i know everyone hates it when noobs ask for help w/o researching.

Hardware: Xbox 1.6, Xecuter 3

First problem: Flashed the chip without the proper switch settings (on on off off, etc.)

End result: Chip refused to boot.

2nd Problem: tried hotflashing with friends modchip. During which time, I decided to Ftp into the xbox to download his config before hotflashing. During this download, i accidentally turned off the machine. Note: i had 2 red wires for the 5v connection soldered on, because our chips used different 5v connections.

End result: His machine refused to recognize his modchip, the front switch does not power on. I can see a blue light from the modchip, but the front switch still doesnt turn on. The box booted fine to Windows, but still wont boot to chip bios.

3rd problem: Felt really bad about f...king up his box, so i swapped his chip into my box and tried to swap his hard drive. His hd wouldnt boot up in my box so I gave him mine.
End result: I have his box w/ my chip. His box (originally mine, with his chip) is working fine, but he cant get the cd drive to open. My box boots Microsoft, but mod chip front switch doesnt turn on resulting in the chip not turning on.

Questions:

1) what is wrong with the modchip? Is the switch bad? I checked the connections and tested out all the wires, but didnt test the switch. It was professionaly soldered and the solder points are all good ( I never touched them, only the 5v point which is easy as hell to solder. I am trying to avoid buying a pro switch w/o knowing the exact problem as this is sort of expensive. He wont let me test out my switch on his machine now because he is afraid i'll burn it again (understandably).

2) How do i reflash the chip if i get it working again? Is the bios blown? Can i use the programmer?

Please someone help. Thanks alot, and i would like to add that i would pay for some help. email me at [email protected] if you got anything.

Your front switch does not need to be plugged in for your chip to work. Unplug it for now.

You've got lots of info there but what is happening right now? When you power up your box have you got both 3.3v and 5v led's working?

Here's the thing about the switch, unplug it at the CHIP. (in case the wires are shorting)

IF you do not have the switch plugged in at all it AUTOMATICALLY boots to the first 1MB bank. "1234"

You should be able to use the backup Bios to reflash it. (Hold down power SLIGHTLY before eject, and while you do that continue holding them down.

You should boot directly into the Backup Bios "FlashBios 3.0.1"
The ONLY XBox ver the backup doesn't work for is 1.6b. (1.6b needs FB 3.0.3)

Now, don't throw rookio's question to the wayside, that's the next step. Nice call Rook

Thanks guys, ok i just pulled open the xbox again and turned it on. I was reading while waiting for replies and i noticed only the 5v light on. I am going to unplug the switch now and since it is in the other room, will get back to you.

Who goes step by step? We need to take leaps and bounds if we wanna get anywhere in life!!:p

Then again maybe that's why we have so many forums operating...

UWHO:
Cool, 3.3V not working means probably bad solder joint at pin 9 or 15.
if you've redone both and no joy, link one to the other with a small wire! (insulated pref.)

If i recall your posts correctly, you now have your mates Xbox, which used to work fine. Therefore should be no problem with soldering. I think it may be a problem that you caused during the hot swap.

I'm going to ask that if Martin C is lurking about he look into this thread and see about helping you.

Here's my advice to you; Read the top sticky, the switch sticky, and make a clear map of EVERYTHING you did so far. Post in here the info that is asked for in the top sticky. Then and ONLY then do I think that Martin will be able to step in here and give you the best answers.

Martin, if you're out there, can u intervene? Thanks in advance!

By top sticky, you mean the "X3 bios flashing support"? and switch, i assume means to search for a switch forum or something right? I will go ahead and do that. Is my original description too complicated? what format should i put it in to make it easy? thanks for your help CoHPhasor, you are a good man.

Top sticky = http://www.linuxbench.org/Posting.html

NExt read the Switch sticky.

With something like this I like to point to the number one idea in troubleshooting.
When you work on something, if you finish and something else is wrong you must recheck what you did in the order you did it. You see, no matter how good ANYONE is you can still screwup, so it's obvious that while you were wroking in a device you broke something.

So we have to follow that idea now and outline EVERYTHING that you did in order.
First, we need to know all about your setup
Xbox ver
chip ver (X3CE has the RED board, X3 does not)
stock HD or upgraded HD
Soldered the chip or solderless (if solderless what is the connector's NAME)
The bios you tried to use
and last the switch settings you used EACH time you flashed, but most importantly the first time.
We need that info for BOTH boxes, and BOTH chips.

Go through the steps for the first box, then the fubarred hotswap, then the arrangement you made with box swapping, etc. Make it as EASY AS POSSIBLE to read.
The more complex it is laid out, the less brain power used towards fixing it.
