I was very much excited as soon I got 3 sets of coolrunner with nand-x device to RGH my 4GB slim. But for the following I am really loosing my inspiration:

1. First I thought I would make my own Xilinx LPT JTAG cable (Gigli) and also made one. Got my coolrunner with 3.3 external power supply and switch into "NOR". The green (DBG) and red (PWR) light are on now. So, I connected my JTAG cable with coolrunner and LPT of PC and run iMPACT.

But my cable was not detected, also not in compatibility mood (Warning iMPACT: 923 cannot detect the cable, please check cable setup). The possible reasons may be:

a. My JTAG cable is very long !
b. Wrong circuit making!
c. LPT port problem!
d. Cable problem

But I checked my circuit (assuming my LPT power is 5v so I used the diodes & resistors), everything was OK. Being desperate I ordered TX Xilinx LPT JTAG cable. In the meanwhile do anyone have any idea why this is happening?

From what ive read...

LTP power is not constant... Try to get an external 5v line... If you have a CK3 or any xbox dvd power supply you can mooch on a 5v line which will give a constant stream of power...

I'll repeat instructions. Again.

Prog switch is if you are programming the CoolRunner after its installed to the Xbox (although not recommended as hooking up nandx and forgetting to switch has caused users nandx to die)

Nor switch is for ALL other times.

When programming with our LPT cable we also provide a power cable as power is not supported via lpt

We do not support or give advice on any 3rd party tools or methods and you use those at your own risk

short the cable to 3cm , i think the problem will slove and also you remmember turning on the xbox when you want to program the chip ( for the direct voltage ) .

Here are the matters going with me:

1. I checked my LPT port voltage is 5v. So I need the diodes & resistors.

2. I cut the cable to less than 10cm but no luck.

3. I measured the voltages of the diodes are 0.492

4. I tried both the switch in "NOR" and "PROG" mode. But no luck

5. All the resistors are OK as measured in multimeter.

6. Here is the picture of my JTAG cable:

In picture, It may seems wires are shorted but no wires are sorted, I checked.

7. My LPT port is set to "Bi-Directional" mode from BIOS.

8. So I connected It to LPT and run impact, but the chain is not initialised and the log of iMPACT are as follows

Welcome to iMPACT
iMPACT Version: 13.3
// *** BATCH CMD : setMode -bs
// *** BATCH CMD : setMode -bs

I have no idea why this is happening, I thought it be simple but something is wrong! I am now thinking of changing my LPT port (Use this cable to my friend's PC) while my ordered TX XILINX cable take time to arrive.

Would it help? Thanks to everyone.

You see if I had to deal with all this extra work I would have just ordered the nandX. Its only $28 more then the LPT cable and its just SOooo much faster.
Dear keil423, I have my nand-x but it is nandpro v2, and I cannot upgrade it because that time the USB nand-x update cable was not in stock and I also don't have any CK3!

Also I am from Bangladesh where get anything from (shipment/ air delivery) online is quite impossible.

So now, this is my only option! Thanks

I bet you it's about your homemade cable and you made it wrong . maybe wrong resistor or diodes position or something else i cant see in your pic , all things looks like good in your pic , but any way if you make it again probably you able to find problem .
I upload my cable's pic if it can help you

One of my electronics expert friend told me, these are not right diodes! The circuit & soldering are OK. There may be problems in diodes or my LPT port.

Does someone tell me how to connect this LPT JTAG cable in compatibility mode in iMPACT?

Thanks
