Does anyone know how to overcome the filename length restrictions? I believe this may be an inherent limitation of the filesystem... but it would be nice to have longer filenames (for movies / music / etc.).

it IS an inherent limitation of the filesystem.

There are a few utilities out there that will "prep" all your filenames beforehand to trunc them, but I know that's not what you asked.

I use a program called mp3 fat-x renamer for my mp3's and it works great. I got it from xbox-scene. It has a ftp client built in.

sometimes if you broadcast ftp from your PC you can copy by grabbing the files from the xbox (as opposed to sitting at your PC and dragging them to the box) but it will automatically truncate the filenames from the start (ie, "Presidents of the United States of America - Lump.mp3" will end up like "ates of America - Lump.mp3")
