Folks,

I have an Xbox v1.6b with X2.6CE chip installed. 250Gb hard drive, with the single partition. Connected onto a hub to my PC. Running Evox.

I've been using leechFTP.

Problem: I can ftp over to the XBOX hard drive easily enough, although I need to change some file names in order to get it over onto the FATX system. The problem I have is actually moving or deleting the files that I've copied over onto the xbox. I feel it may not be the ftp server because, I obviously have write permission. Is it my client software (leechFTP)?

I will try other FTP software tonight ie. Flashfxp, cuteftp or something, but if anybody has any experiences with similar issues, please help.

thanks.

FTP is not like a file share connection to a network drive. I think it may depend on both the client and the server if a move operation is allowed. I don't believe the ability to directly move files around on the host was a part of the original RFC765 FTP spec.

The easier thing to do would be to add a file browser app or something that has file browsing capability. XBMC, DVD2Xbox, Boxplorer... dashboards (you can run them like apps) Avalaunch and UnleashX have file browsers built in.

Hi Whoopin',

thanks for the reply.

So you don't use ftp to move/delete files?

I do have dvd2xbox and xbmc installed. I am not where my xbox is right now, so if you can tell me how to do this from dvd2xbox and xbmc that would be great (in the event that when I do go to try it out I can't figure it out, if that makes sense).

thanks.

I agree with Whoopin. I use XBMC to delete, rename and move stuff... I just find it easier and faster it seems. I use WS_FTP and I have moved files and renamed them without any problems but it seems that the moves take longer.

In any event, XBMC is really straight forward and if you mess with it a little you'll find the browser and how to delete and whatnot. Good luck!:)

I use CuteFTP to do all the file management on my Xbox as well as all of the ones I install. The only thing I can't do is copy files, but that is a limitation of the FTP software in Avalaunch (and I'd assume all FTP servers for Xbox).

FlashFXP Works great to moves, renames, deletes
Also UnleashX Dashboard has a nice filemanager as well

Hi Guys,

I've managed to do the things I required (move/delete) using flashfxp. I'll try using xmbc tonight and see how it goes, but my connection from PC to XBOX through the router is nice and fast, so I have no speed issues with that.

Thanks all for replying and thanks for the helpful suggestions.

When you were able to move files did you change the FTP server or was EvoX still serving up the data? Delete was supported in even the lowest FTP I believe.

If you're able to move the files from a local app it is the fastest way, especially if you are moving a bunch of small files. Each file will require individual communications between the server and the client, so one large file move may go faster than many small file move. Admittedly, the time lost to the FTP communication overhead is negligible, especially if the convenience of not having to be in front of/walk over to the Xbox is important to you.
