Basically this post is for any of you experiencing problems with ftp, it may be your firewall software (I hear that Norton/Symantec software firewall can be just as bad), for me it was Zone Alarm.
So I have been going mad tring to find out why I was having slow speed on a 100MB link when uploading to my XBOX and yet full speed when downloading from my XBOX.
When I was uploading my transfer started at 300Kps and rapidly fell to a slow crawl that would make a 9600bps modem look swift
.
During my troubleshooting I made sure that my Zone Alarm firewall was shut-down. Still no joy, changed network cards, cables etc etc etc.
I uninstalled Zone Alarm as a last resort (to be honest, becuase the software was shutdown, I just didnt think about it sooner). Well wouldn't you know it, everything now works perfectly.
I'm now going to reinstall and start changing settings to see if that can get rid of the problem, otherwise I'll just goto the Sygate firewall (tried and tested and works well).
The lesson here is be more thorough with your diagnoosis and installed software and don't blame the X3 hardware straight away!
