FTP speed tweaks for XBOX

I read a lot of posts around these forums about slow speeds while ftp'ing into your xbox systems. I did a little research and would like to share it.

I had a terrible time uploading games. A game that was 2gb would take 23 minutes to upload. I tried a few different software packages:

CuteFTP · LeapFTP · FlashFXP are just a few but the best way (fast and easy) I found is just using IE 6 - (ex: ftp://192.168.0.100 right click on the screen and choose login as and put in user: XBOX pass: XBOX)

Those are all great programs but I still has speed issuses. I am using a Netgear RP614v2 Firewall router. What I did was checked the netgear site for a firmware update, installed it and wouldnt you know. I uploaded a 4gb game last night and it only took 25 seconds.

I recommend (as a newbie to the whole xbox thing) just using IE 6 and if you are using a router, check for a firmware update. If someone knows better, please share.

If you are using a NFORCE based motherboard and the onboard NVIDIA ethernet, under your options in driver manager set Optimizations to Throughput (default is cpu).

Hope some of this helps!

you mean 25 minutes right? not even the fastest ultra3 scsi hard drives can transfer at 160mb a second.

4GB =
4096MB =
4194304kB =
33554432b (bits, not bytes)

fastest speed of internet on Xbox =
100Mbps =
102400 bits per second.

Hence 4GB over 100mbps (100bT ethernet) =
33554432/102400 sec =
327.68 sec =
5.46 minutes.

Not 25 seconds, but still not too bad ... now 4MB would only take about 19.2 seconds at the best speed possible NOT allowing for any form of overhead.

Eitherway, I'll be upgrading my Netgear RP614 as soon as I fully install it into my network.

I noticed that too, I normally use flashfxp which is great for downloading (kinda) but sorta sucks uploading to the xbox (yes flashfxp is registered!)
But I also use Windows Commander (use it @ work to ftp out through socks5 proxy) which I leeched from teh xbox with and it seems to pull it down as fast as teh hdds can go really.

Couldn't hurt to try

You can actually transfer ISOs using Qwix to the xbox under any dash... It only requires FTP access so you could do it in Config Live... It's just the Titile Managment (launching, viewing of you games through Qwix) that requires Avalaunch
o thanks for the clarification. I didnt know you could send the files using quix to ANY dash but then you would have to disable boost mode in the config file correct? I'd rather just use avaluanch any way because i like veiwing all my games like that, its kinda cool.

How to Copy Rented Games

if I were to copy rented games would it be ban proof?.
Also, if I decide to make a copy of my rented game what materials do I need.

A brain would be a good start.

BAn Proof???? I don't think there is no such thing....you roll the dice and take your chances ......:)

Technically if your renting the game you still don't own it...so its still piracy.... Dude
