FTP Transfer and Xbox file name length

I'm trying to use by box as storage (Long story short, my ipod program erased my PC's 120 gig drive and wrote over it with mp3's thinking it was my ipod, I am recovering data but only have 6 gigs on my other drive, so I have to unload every few hours) and I am having a bitch of a time getting files to go, every method errors if I control the transfer from computer to xbox with the pc (using xbftp, ava, evox, and xbmc), and if I broadcast the files through ftp and grab them from the xbox, using xbftp or ava, I lose half the filename past the limit. Is this a fatx problem or is there a way around this?

I have had some problems with transering movies over that have names that are overly long too!!! I just cut down the names and it seems to cure my problem.... Rename your files with a more basic name instead of having all of the jargon that is not needed in the name.... My 2 cents..

Well, I have about 700 files to transfer, and that's if I don't transfer all my old databases, which would be about 3000 files. It'd almost be easier to just buy another hdd and later put it in someone's box
