i am using this guide http://einstein.etsu.edu/~zajb19/xbox/n00b_survival.pdf
to do my install. right now i am at the part where you swap hdd and ftp the c: and e: back onto the new hdd. but when i go into the ftp and log onto the xbox i can transfer the files over and it says there transfering but after its done i can't see any files over on the xbox is there a step missing in this guide. the jumper on the new hdd was set to the same as the stock one too. the hdd is unlocked too

Nevermind i fixed it. i had to open the c or e folder and put the files in then

Is this Lite-On bricked?

Long story short, I was trying to spoof a BenQ to a Lite-On. Reason being, a client wanted it for XBox Live usage, so I let them know that it had a BenQ drive in it, and couldn't say whether or not it would be safe from a future ban-hammer. But before I gave him the XBox, I thought I would try to spoof it to a Lite-On and just hope for the best for my client.

So I did the normal spoof process:
Loaded original BenQ Firmware
Target Firmware was LT for LiteOn
Flashed the firmware just fine as usual

Plug it up to test, and complete failure. Get the e66 error (never even got this before), so I say screw it, and put the original BenQ back in as I was doing this on my lunch break. So now I get home and after selling a few boxes to other clients, I get a chance to sit down with the Lite-On again.

When I put it back in it's original XBox (yes, I borrowed this Lite-On from another client's box backed up the firmware all that good stuff) the only thing it will do is hum and not respond to eject command. So I plug it back up to my mod PC and JF doesn't show it as detected. So I load the original firmware plus the hacked firmware into the Lite_CFW and fire up DOSFlash.

Same thing, tried l-o-eras and never can erase it. The drive just hums. Tried DOSFlash anyway, doesn't detect. So I remove the case from the drive and the only thing that's going on when I turn on the drive is the motor will spin and the laser moves slightly and lights up very dimly. Like it's stuck. I've tried l-o-eras about 47 times and just comes back FF80 each time, never the lovely FF72 that I hope for.

This isn't really a huge deal, as I've got some BenQ drives coming in tomorrow so I can put one of those in...if his RRoD fix works anyway...but my concern is...is this Lite-On Drive recoverable or have I finally bricked my first drive out of about 406? 8)

Already tried that. Only thing the drive does is turn on, and then the motor just spins. Will not recognize in JF. Maybe when I spoofed it to BenQ, that's what screwed it up?

Re: Is this Lite-On bricked?

you will need to resend the lite-on erase command

make sure you are sending it to the correct port

a lite-on drive is only locked if it doesn't respond at all
i.e. no valid firmware on the drive

if it doesn't erase completely, that's when you send the device intro and power up

It doesn't show up at all in JF or in DF. That's the problem. You send the command to the port, and nothing happens because it doesn't see it.

I think I'm the first person to brick a Lite-On! 8)

No. that is false. Your drive will receive the command because the computer is constantly sending the command to that port. Your drive will erase and then be recognized. They are unbrickable

I am not false, guy. I'm telling you, I have tried erasing it in JungleFlasher, I have tried erasing it in DosFlash. I know it is the correct port, I've flashed more than enough drives. I can take a video if you would like. I just want to be the first person to have successfully bricked a Lite-On drive. 8)

Re: Is this Lite-On bricked?

Any idea how that could happen? Never had it happen out of ~250 Lite-Ons...

Re: Is this Lite-On bricked?

nothing is 100% perfect
i think 250-1 good drives is a good ratio

LOL!!! I'm not complaining, just was curious. I think it was just something to do with me trying to spoof a Lite-On to a BenQ. I was told it wasn't possible, but JF tried anyway and I guess failed.
