ok guys, I am an amature, dont really know what I am doing, but have evox + emulators and have always been able to ftp from pc to xbox with no bother.

until now.

since the last time I ftp'd sucessfully I have managed to link my PC to my mac and may have changed some settings along the way (this is the only thing I can think could possibly have sent it wrong.)

I have followed the following tutorial:
____________________________________
1. click start menu
2. select 'run'
3. type in 'cmd' (winxp,2000) or type in 'command' for win95/98 etc
4. type 'ipconfig /all' or 'winipconfig'
5. it will show you all your pc network settings.
6. write them down
7. my home pc ip is 192.168.0.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0. So just use this as a example.
8. I have my xbox setup with a static ip address of '192.168.0.2' with a subnet of '255.255.255.0' and a gateway of '192.168.0.1'. And have the static switch under xbox setting switched to 'YES' static..
9. reboot your xbox

IMPORTANT:
- if you are connecting directly from your network card to your xbox you should be using a crossover.
- if you are connecting from your hub/switch router etc to your xbox use a normal rj45 network lead..

my flashfxp settings:
example:
ip: 192.168.0.2 Port: 21
user: xbox
pass: xbox
______________________________

problem is the ip address' for my pc and xbox ip config gives me are nothing like what they should be. (there much longer in digits)

in settings of evox my xbox is:
ip: 192.168.0.201
user: xbox
pass: xbox

This should work, but it simply doesnt and its pissing me off.

any ideas would be greatly appriciated.

Danbo.

Ok - you'll need to show us your IP settings...

on your PC , run ipconfig /all > c:\ip.txt, then copy/paste the details from C:\ip.txt here.

Also, post the first portion of evox.ini too. Don't need the menus etc, just the first part.

Try setting your PC IP to something else apart from 192.168.0.1. Your Xbox gateway is set as this address - this may clash.

Set your PC to 192.168.0.100 and retry.

HIs Home PC doesn't have a gateway. having the Home IP address as the gateway on the Xbox won't be a problem. In fact, it's essential if you enable ICS.

How do you figure that they'll clash?

The gateway is where the PC will go if it can't resolve through an ARP request.

Unless your connecting through a router then you really don't need a default gateway... set it to whatever you want.. your never resolving higher then level 2 on the OSI.

Just get your PC and xbox on two seperate IP's that are between 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.254 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and then ping... if you can't ping then you have one of two problems...

1. A firewall

2. A bad (or incorrect) cable

Did you just happen to install WinXP sp 2? It installs a firewall defaultly on your PC... even if it's disabled it's been known to block port 21. You may want to check those settings.

sorted

problem sorted guys,
it was because I set up my home network with my mac, it was something to do with the gateway, I set the gateway on my PC and XBOX and FTP'd fine, then when trying to connect back to the mac it screwed up. after about an hour of tickling and tweeking I have both up and running.... life is sweet.

till the next problem,

Danbo.
