I know that you can connect to the xbox on evox using crossover cable connect directly from pc to xbox. however, i want to connect to the xbox via my hub to the evox screen, is this possible? If so, how can I do that?

Just use a normal (straight) cat 5 cable

Of course it's possible!!

The Xbox uses TCP/IP Ethernet to communicate.

Keep the IP addresses the same, just use normal Ethernet patch cables and an Ethernet hub.

If your hub is in fact a router and serves DHCP then it is very easy.

When Martin says keep your up ip addresses the same I believe he means in the same range and same subnet.
No - I meant keep the same IP settings!

A hub and a router are two entirely different things.

Although a router can have a built in hub, it's not the same thing.

The only difference between a hub and a crossover cable is the method of communication. The actual TCP/IP stays exactly the same.

I hate DHCP - purely because I want to know the IP address of my Xbox every time I boot it. In other words, I have a setting in FlashFXP saved for it and I know that it will always connect at 192.168.0.100. The hassle of having to re-read the IP, retype it etc is just not worth it and is also pointless.

I agree with Martin.

I hate DHCP

As a network administrator for a engineering firm with about 100 users and 5 main servers and 10 license servers and 6 different subnets. I like to know what the ip address is for what user, printer, server, etc.....

It is nice to be able to trouble shoot the problems when I know the IP address and don't have to hunt for them with DHCP.

Just my 2 cents worth.....

DHCP haters eh?

To be honest I used to be there with you but now I like it!

and I always know my xbox IP address because it is always the same.

unless you have more machines than space in your ip range setting a high lease time on the shcp server works fine and ensures the machines always get the same ip (set by mac address)

and aslo it means i can plug in some random machine and get on my network fast when needed!

so my network now runs 192.168.0.1 connection machine.

and 2-99 unused 100 is my wireless router 101-200 are dhcp available and i keep 201-255 for mahcines i like to specify address's for.

basically what i'm saying

dhcp, it's not all that bad really!

If I plug a random machine into my network, then I *will* get a DHCP address to use if it's set as such.

I use prefer to use a static address for permanent machines!
