g: troubles... bad partition?

i've recently did my 1st modchip install which all went fine... then i put in a 200 gig HDD which also works fine, except i can't get evox or avalaunch to use drive g!

here's my spread... right now i got X2_5935_v16plus512k.bin on bank 1 which will boot avalaunch and m8_16.bin on bank 2 which boots the latest evox dash. I've changed the hex value 0x1b04 in X2 and it's my understanding evox's m8 sets lba48 automatically. i formatted the 200 Gb HDD in the xbox via ftp using commands such as Formatpath \Device\Harddisk0\Partition7 etc.

here's some of my symptoms... avalaunch freezes on opening the file manager when lba48 is 2 (works without g: when set to 0) - evox shows g: but it can't be used - dvd2xbox doesn't show g: - flashFXP shows g: but it can't be used.

have i not patched X2 correctly? does evox need to be patched for lba48? or did i not partition the drive correctly? i'd rather not have to backup the HDD and have to reformat it... put about 30 games on the day i got it working.

cheers

Couple of things here.

First off, there is no point in having two different bios on there. If you really want to be able to boot two different dashboards, setup Avalaunch to boot EvolutionX if you are holding down a certain button (or button combo) at boot.

Second, in your case there really isn't a reason to have an F and G drive. Just set it up so F takes the rest of the drive.

but... if you've already been using the F and G combo long enough it is probably more worthwhile to just have the BIOS find both partitions rather than have to transfer everything off and then back on after formatting.

The LBA48 setting of X2CL 5035 for F and G is 2. If you're not sure if you've properly set it via a hex editor you can use any of the X2CL BIOS config programs to properly set the mode. I'd recommend X2 Config Maker since it is also compatible with 5035 for editing the ini file.

I know there are others that have moved from M8 to X2CL 5035 without issue, the key is just finding which setting. Try all 4 individually... one should work. If you don't see the partition then it wasn't the right one. Change the setting, flash, try again. You wouldn't be the first person to have to do this.

Right, but this is a new install so I doubt that's the problem.

Yeah, but this guy apparently works fast. :D I don't see why one of the LBA48 settings in X2CL 5035 wouldn't be compatible with whatever the M8 install is using. Both BIOSes probably have the same LBA48 patch in them anyway. Unless one of them finally matches up then there will be FTP transfers and a repartition/format involved. Having the 1 lump F drive is the way I would want to go. There are some tools to allow you to read/write from an FATX HDD on a normal PC, but I think they are limited and I've heard mixed results anyway. At this point I don't know that I would trust writing to a FATX HDD directly from the PC, but if files could be moved from the FATX drive to the PC directly over the PC's IDE bus it would cut down the time on one of the steps considerably. So for what it's worth, http://www.xbox-scene.com/tools/tools.php?page=harddrive

I finally got a gigabit network running in my house to take full advantage of the NICs in a number of my computers... it's a shame the Xbox NIC chipset only supports 10/100. I remember doing a boatload of FTP'ing when upgrading from an 80GB drive to a 160GB. Fire and forget, or rather, fire and go to sleep.

firstly, fantmx: i only put the two different bioses in my own attempt to resolve this issue, to see if evox would work it and not X2 (then the problem would be in X2 bios, not the drive), though X2 has been the bios i've been using, obviously :)D any staff reading this thread).

secondly, i tried different lba48 options on X2 today to no avail. err:3 on g: (which is what i'd expect from those options) and no change in the size of f: on option 1.

so i'm thinking the problem is with the partition/format... does anyone know of a way or an app to check the disk properties through ftp or something? didn't see anything helpfull in you link, sorry big_whoopin.

maybe i'll just have to find somewhere to back it up and reformat the drive.

also, X2_config_maker_v50350.3 won't open X2_5035_v16plus_512k.bin and EVtool_1.0.9 wont open m8_16.bin . what's doing there?

cheers dudes

I would use an FTP program, and get everything you want off your drive. Then setup your bios to only use the F drive, and format and install everything with NetPrep. However, it would be quicker and easier to just stick the originals in and rip them with DVD2Xbox when you are done.
