Question.. I have backed up a few of my games on RW-DVD's and the question I have is would I be able to use them in a box that does not have a mod chip in it? If not why?

What type of media are you referring to ? There is no RW-DVD. There are DVD+RW and DVD-RW. Secondly, no you cannot play backups in a non-modded box. It must have been modded, either with a mod chip, a TSOP flash or a softmod. If you COULD play backups without modding the box, why would any of us even bother with mods in the first place ? :)

yeah if you could play backups on a non modded xbox, then you'd probably be able to use homebrew software on one too, so the only use for a mod chip would be too... add lights, and change your startup screens, lol...

A more technical answer... Altho not deserved... :p

An xbox is designed to not play unassigned code. The modchip bypasses the protection, and lets you play/access just about anything.
