I have been looking through the forum and haven't seen this answered yet. I have already flashed my 360 thanks to the tutorials here, and on the first try too. Now I know that there is a xbox version that linux is starting to be useful for and I don't want the update if I ever want to use it. But I have a game that needs the update. Is there any way to edit the disc or something of the like so it doesn't update my system? Or do I have to choose between linux and any new games? Thanks

you have to choose between linux and any new games

certain new games are updating your kernel so yeah if you'd like homebrew oneday, don't play new games...

If you really want to have the best of both worlds, you need to get a backup of your NAND and remove r6t3, which disables the efuse power supply. Currently we cannot downgrade after upgrading to 4552 but hopefully someday we will learn how to extract the fuse set from the motherboard and be able to re-encrypt an older kernel that will work with your system. This may never be possible or if it is, it may not be any time soon.

So, you either invest in an infectus to dump your nand pre-4552 kernel, remove r6t3, upgrade to play, and then downgrade when you feel there is something worth while to use or you dont upgrade and dont play any new games. Or, you could buy a new exploitable core and keep that for homebrew and your current one for games.

There is also the hope that a new exploit will be found sometime in a different kernel or another type of exploit.

it's not as bad as it looks but it would be in your best interest to take the time to read up on it

Well that's kinda what I figured. Another question. Why can't you just decide later that you want to downgrade and remove the resistor and short the spot where the fuse used to be? I'm not exactly an electrical engineer, just figured that makes sense. Thanks for the replies.
