Hello - I have not yet hacked my xbox as I barely get to play it.
However I went to play it the other day and the games will start but then freezing begins and/or sometimes I will get a message telling me my disc is dirty or damaged.

I am getting this with all games but happens quicker on games like NHL2K6.

It seems like an over heating issue as I can blow compressed air in sometimes will get the game going again.

Has anyone else had this - what can be done, what should I look for - any help would be great

It's the dvd drive. I would go on ebay and search for "thomson xbox dvd drive". You can get one for about $30 shipped.

DVD drive... that is what I was guessing as I had had problems watching a DVD before too.

I just actually played a whole game with no problems - however I had the unit all apart and the drives out - so I thought from this that maybe it is an overheating problem. Though probably the DVD drive overheating or something.

It's most likely that the dvd drive is bad, it happens all the time. If you can play games consistently without freezing with the stuff all apart, then it might not be the dvd drive, but i'd test it a bit before ruling out the dvd drive being bad. Check and make sure the fan works. And while you have it apart, i'd blow it out with an aircompressor to get rid of the dust.

yeah playing games with the dvd drive out and the harddrive in and still working. If I put the dvd drive in with the top off it still freezes.

Fan is working but does not seem to create much airflow.

Still playing around - hoping to get my brother in laws machine here and use his DVD drive in mine all closed up to see if the problem goes away.

Do you know how to tweak the laser. I have read about people doing it but have not seen where or how. I figured I've got nothing to lose so might as well try it
