Just wondered if there a mod that allows u to play games from the he'd without disc and does it work on live.

You would need to rgh the console but you will only be able to play from the harddrive and will not be able to play online
If you install freestyle dash then yes you can play online via link which is free. 
but anything involving xbox live will be a no go, unless you use a demon. And if you do want to use live and play games off of a hdd, then i would suggest waiting for the new/final mod that TX has promised for the 360, No guarantees but i would bet it is a "live safe" ode, or as close as one can get.

They support mods and rips i'm sure.
