OK -- here's what I've done.

1. got x3_1959_v16plus.bin
2. got craxtion
3. created a dir with bios.bin (above .bin renamed) and a 100MB dummy.bin
4. used craxton to create an ISO image
5. used nero to burn a CD with that ISO image on slowest speed

6. Boot my 1.6 xbox, set DIPs to on on off off
7. tried to flash bios from CD
8. dropeed the burned CD in, and ....

NOTHING.

Can anyone advise what I might be doing wrong?

Make sure you burn the disc correctly and to a disc that you know your xbox reads:

NOTE: the bios disc is not the standard ISO that you make for files and games. Read the tutorial on this site. Make sure the disc is one that you know your XBOX will read. Or try the ftp method if it still won't work. Put the disc in your PC and it should show the files in the cd wizard window. If the files show, you have burnt the disc in the right way. Burn the disc with Nero as in the tutorials. Make sure the bios.bin is 1024k/1mb. Use X2BiosManager to do this. Just go to xbox scene and read the tutorial for bios flashing.

If this is helpful please add to my rep.

What are the issues with discs and the xbox? How would I not burn this properly, given the steps I took above? Im confused...

Answer this: have you ever burnt a disc and it worked in your xbox?

Ok, go to the xbox scene tutorial: xbox-scene.com/articles/flashbios.php (add www. before this, I didn't put it in 'cos ur not allowed to post html here).
Now do what it says with your bios file.

If you have burnt a disc that worked in your xbox before, use this exact type of disc to make your bios disc. (Hopefully it was a rewritable disc).
Then download a free trial of nero6 if you haven't got it. Then, go to "flashbios guide" from this website. Click the link "how to burn a flashbios compliant cd/dvd". The difference with a bios disc is that you don't burn an iso image to the iso disc. You burn files to the iso disc. Do what this tutorial says.

Then go back to the flasbios guide and do what this says (flash your bios from the disc).

If you haven't ever burnt a disc that worked in your XBOX, find the part about how to flash using ftp.

I'm having the same problem. I checked the dvd-r that I made in my pc and it recognizes the files that I loaded onto the dvd-r. They were DUMMY.BIN and BIOS.BIN

But, when I put it in the xbox, nothing happens. I've made two different dvd-r's and gotten the same results.

I followed the tutorial on making the disc and bios flashing from here.

BIOS.BIN is 1024KB

Any ideas?
