getting the unplayable disk sign

why is that when i try to play a game it says i cant play it, but i can play movies, but not games why is that? i have a toshiba-samsung, model number TS-H943, MS25, any one have any ideas? i would really like if some can help me out, can modding the dvd rom fix it?

any one has any ideas? on the dashboard it says that the tray is open when its not? any one have a clue?

I am having the same problem. I modded (flashed dvd firmware) my xbox360 in Iraq. It worked flawlessly for six months. Then I shipped it home. When I hooked it up again the following occurred...

1. Dashboard came on, blinking green light (like when the drive is in mode b), and the dvd tray would not open.

2. I manually opened the drive and inserted a "back-up" game. The drive spun up and read the disc and displayed the message "to play this disc put it in an xbox360 console."

3. I manually opened the drive and inserted an original xbox360 game. The drive spun up and read the disc and displayed the message "to play this disc put it in an xbox360 console."

4. I manually opened the drive and inserted a dvd. The drive spun up and read the disc and played the movie with no problems. (the drive still will not open on its own--however it does close when the the system is powered up).

Any ideas?

bad firmware? bad laser? bad drive?

i have th same problem, but mines work ok, it just doesnt play any xbox games, all i want to know if i just need a new dvd-rom, or does it needs to be flashed or something.

Well, I have ordered a new laser for the DVD ($16 with shipping on ebay) and i will replace that first. Then I will reflash my drive. I am waiting for parts that should arrive during the week of 5 Nov. I will let you know how my troubleshooting pans out.

ok, i am also in the process of getting the sata card so i can flash my rom.

ok i flash the dvd rom, and i did every thing right, but for some reason, i stiff cant play the original disk. does any one know why is that happening?

HeavyDD...Try to play the following media in order....1) "Back Up" XBOX360 game, 2) Original XBOX360 game, 3) DVD Movie. If your laser is going bad it will likely not be able to play the first two, but will play the DVD movie. That is an easy fix.

Now that you have reflashed your DVD ROM will it open an close properly?

i cant make back up of games yet as i have no dvd DL disk, but my xbox aslo been to eject properly, it just never can read the games, all it said was just to play it on a xbox 360, movies worked perfect, so do u think it can just be the laser?
