At the start of 2011, and purchased two predone JTAG consoles from the Buy/Sell section of the Xbox-Scene forums while they were still up. This was prior to the RGH development. They are both Jasper big block 256meg nand systems, done with the Audio clamp method. The guy selling them convinced me at the time to go with a preinstalled Maximus QSB and NAND flasher to save money; a decision I immediately regret as I was protesting at the time to install the Xecuter kit. Life got complicated then, and both systems were put in storage shortly after I received them and never actually saw a minute of usage.
I knew one day I would eventually dig them out and get them going, and that day is today. I was continuing to read scene news daily throughout the years, and I gathered there was going to be a hurdles to negotiate along the way.
Here's what bits I remember:
-Burned dvds were provided by the seller for each system containing NAND backups of each , along with the JungleFlasher dumps for the dvdroms.
-The R6T3 resistors were removed to protect the efuses
-The systems are pre XGD3 firmware update dashboards and are most likely going to have to revert to stock firmware, deal with the JTAG updates and then reflash the drives to CFW. (Not a problem, I know my way through the JF process)
-I remember reading the news feeds about all the changes M$ were making to the NAND configuration; split CB and what not. The changes are briefly touched on the revision history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_system_software , however I have no idea what hoops were jumped through by the scene to manage these changes.
-I still need to pickup HDD's for the system. I was planning on installing 750GB WD Black drives; WD7500BPKX. I appreciate the lack of security sector enforcement with a JTAG, but I see no reason to invest in anything better because of the limited bus of the 360 to begin with.
-I have two LianLi XB-01 brushed aluminum cases I am planning to move both boards into. As well as excellent heat management for the phat consoles, I figured it's convenient to make use of the precut water cooling hose ports at the back to hang the QSB cable out of for easy access.
Questions:
1) Can I leave the maximus QSB kits installed, and purchase the latest Xecuter NAND flashing product to connect to the existing wire connector, or do they need to be replaced? Which product do you recommend?
2) Can you give me a quick outline of the steps I need to get up to speed. I'll put in the time to do all the reading required, but since I'm not "starting from scratch" so to speak, I figured the guides we not going to help me exactly.
3) There's no point investing in a WD Velociraptor or SSD drive is there? The performance gains will be negligible? - although I'll still prefer to use a WD Black over the Blue I think.
Thank you kindly.
