Got offered a console with a broken DVD drive, what are my options?

Check the Halo before you drop $80. I just picked one up with a RROD for $20. Its a Zephyr. I will recycle the case and drive and bin the board. Not going to waste time on a zephyr. Might give it to my 12yr old to practice on now that i think on it.

Ended up settling on a 360 Slim for $100 .. ... Figure it's more durable in the long run, and I'll just save up for the Jtag or RGH .. ...

That's actually the best thing you could have done. If you're still interested in modding it, the Slim Proto V2 chips can get within that 1-3 cycle range and they're stupid cheap compared to RGX or CR3 Pro. The setup is a bit more complicated so if you don't trust your skills, look into modding services provided by Xecuter members. They really don't charge a whole lot at all.

Well, I'm kinda stuck on whether this is a Trinity or a Corona board. It's a 10.83 sticker, but the MFD date is 9-15-2011. Also, I noticed that even though the box says 10.83A, the power supply that was sold with it, is a 9.6A will that hurt it in the long run? On a side note, I'm really surprised how well designed the Slim is, it's quiet, runs cool, and has Wifi and a HDD slot built in!? Microsoft did right by this one .. ...

EDIT: I also called around for local modders, and I was offered $100-$120 for a RGH done by them, just not sure I trust myself enough to solder those tiny pads .. ...

It's a Trinity board 8) What I was hoping for .. ... I have an offer for $65 to have it RGHd. After that's done, would I be able to use my Seagate Maximus 320GB 7200 in it?

yes. Once you RGH it you can use a 2TB drive if you wish.

I'm gonna get the drive flashed this Friday, I already ordered the Optiarc along with 5 Verbatim and a SATA to USB converter (Prefer to use my laptop to burn). I'm holding off on the RGH until I have enough for a Dual NAND with RGH, so I'll use an external 1.5TB drive for saves and installs .. ... Thanks for all your help!
