Grounding Problem, Bad LPC, or Bad X3?

I have an xbox v1.0 and am trying to get an X3 working with pinheader install. At first, when I used the x3 power/eject pcb between the standard xbox power/eject pcb and the motherboard, the xbox would turn on as soon as the power plug was inserted. It would then turn on and off over and over. I read that it may be due to excess solder on the PCB. To test it, I left the x3 plugged into the pin header and unplugged the x3 two wire power/eject cable. The xbox functioned as normal with no frags or on/off problem.

I have now made my own x3 two wire power/eject cable by extending the stock x3 cable and attaching it to the on/off and eject switches (yes, they are correctly connected). However, as soon as I connect the x3 two wire power/eject cable to the on/off switch or the eject switch, the xbox turns on and I can not turn it off with the power button. When I unplug the x3 two wire power/eject cable from the on/off switch, the on/off switch functions properly and I can use it to turn the xbox on and off as normal. This tells me that the power/eject cable going to the x3 must always be grounded since grounding the power cable is what signals the xbox to turn on and off. What do you think and do you have any suggestions for finding the ground or fixing the problem. The LPC has been resoldered twice already. However, I think I had it right the first time because I later realized that not having the video cable attached caused red blinking.

While the x3 two wire power/eject cable was unattached, I turned on the xbox and took voltage readings from the x3. (by the way, both LEDs on the x3 are functional and the xbox works fine in stock mode). The readings are listed below by the corresponding lpc pin numbers:

1-1.605v
2-ground (0.2mv)
3-3.292v
4-4.72v
5-3.245v
6-5.01v
7-3.245v
8-3.275v
9-3.297v
10-3.275v
11-jumps around between 2.5 and 2.6v
12-ground (0.2mv)
13-3.296v
14-3.297v
15-3.296v
16-ground?(0.11mv)

What do you think? bad chip, bad lpc pinheader install?

What do you think?

Edit: I have now measured the voltages shown on the LPC pins with the X3 removed:

1-1.617v
2-0(ground)
3-3.295
4-no pin
5-3.248
6-5.01
7-3.296
8-3.297
9-3.299
10-3.296
11-3.296
12-0(ground)
13-3.299
14-3.299
15-3.299
16-no pin

In comparing the pinout from the back of the x3 to the lpc pinout, two things stick out:

1. Pin 11 jumps around from 2.5 to 2.6 on the x3, but this is a 3.3v connection on the LPC.

2. Pin 1 is 1.6v on the LPC and the x3, this seems like maybe half of 3.3v somehow.

It appears no one had any insight into this. As a last ditch effort, I removed pins 2 and 12 (ground pins) from the LPC pin header. I then attached a ground wire to the top of the x3 at pin 2. Since pins 2 and 12 are connected, and the wire install adapter doesn't even have a pin 12, one ground should be sufficient. I plugged the power in with high hopes, but they were dashed as the xbox fired up, grounded just the same. Just for the record; for anyone out there with the same problem my advice is to get a new modchip. It's too late for me to send mine back, so I'm out $60. I'm going to give the SmartXX chip a try. It appears to be set up nicely for Linux which is all I'm really interested in anyway. Also, it looks like there's no special connections to the power and eject module, it just uses the LPC and the d0.

Re: Bad spoof!

go to device manager in your computer and search for new devices

it should find your hitachi if it is in mode b

then press refresh in jungleflasher

should find your drive after drivers for it are installed in windows

then you should be able to manually spoof it

Re: Bad spoof!

got it sorted ... all i did was use a working hitachi waited till everything was detected ... hot swapped the bricked drive loaded a org. dvd let it play .....then accessed the drive to fix....worked like a charm! .... this could possibly work for other bricked hitachi drives!!

test it out!!
