Morning all,

I am really really sorry if this is a double post but, I have tried trawling these forums for help on this matter but cannot seem to find anything that helps me . I have RGH'd many consoles now, can have them done within half hour depending on what needs to be put on them as far as homebrew goes, blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda. :D

Anyways, I have installed the xenon JTAG QSB and am now getting E79. I can dump nand and have no issues whatsoever using a wire install for the nand-x.

I have double, treble and QUADRUPLE checked the soldering, but to no avail. I have tried flashing back the origin.bin but also, still E79 error. I am using the QSBs that came with the nand-x.

Please find pics of my soldering attached just to see if i have missed anything.

Many thanks,

Nate

have checked all connections with a MM. used liquid flux too for the soldering as well as lead rosin solder :D i know this xenon CAN be JTAG'd as the dash is way back on the old blades, think the kernel is 2.0.2637 or around this figure, cannot find out exactly as i have tried restoring to stock and still get E79. . .

any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Nate

EDIT: No bad blocks. all is good :D

maybe its just one of those xenons that likes the e79 .
I know this sounds stupid I have done one and sat there for 1 hour playing with switch ect..
try this it worked for me but cant say it will do the same .
The cables that connect to the qsb's try taping them to the hard drive caddy pn top of where the hard drive plugs in. There is a cap that the two cables run over.
Secondly try the e79 kit.
I am only saying this as I have one that worked this way the other i stuck the e79 kit on and that worked.

You WILL get E79 with a stock NAND if you have the QSB's connected for JTAG.

Set the switch to OFF.
Have turned it off mate but still no avail, even desoldered the QSB next to the nand to be on the safe side but still the same error

I am on the understanding that the E79 QSB comes as standard with the RETAIL NAND-X???

I'll try soldering all the QSB points again and see what happens with that. Will have to give me a couple of hours before posting results as I have quite a bit on today.

Thanks for all your input

Nate

So you still have the original NAND on the console, yes?

Switch must be set to off and cable removed which links the two QSBs. If this is still giving you E79 then you have a short somewhere.

So, I have now done the following. . . orig.bin back on the nand. . QSB switched OFF and cable disconn. . . now booting to dash 6683. . where do i go from here please???

Check resistance at J2D2.1 and J2D2.1 against GND. Let me know the values.
Both read 1.55 mate.

when i connect the blue and yellow cable, they drop to .8 is this normal??

Not sure TBH - I know on HDMI consoles the values remain high. Have you checked over the solder points on the QSB? If needed, get some flux and desoldering braid and try to remove as much of the solder as possible.

I had to check as it looks like you had the cable round the wrong way :

http://team-xecuter.com/jtag/JTAG_KIT8.jpg

as long as J2D2.1 goes to J1F1.3 and J2D2.2 goes to J1F1.4 you should be ok.

I'm concerned about the drop of resistance when you have the cable connected though. This is probably what's causing E79. I don't have a Xenon JTAG in front of me so can't verify it either way.

Well, i will try cable the other way round but if i remember rightly, the thin bits on the connectors are the correct way around. I really appreciate your help martin and will try again with the cable the other way round :D any chance it could be a GPU error?? would a reflow help solve the problem do you think??

thanks again,

Nate
