I told Aoife not to bother writing this one up yesterday because it was such a threadbare story. Now everybody's writing about it, and it clearly isn't quite that threadbare a story, and I feel like an idiot. So here you go: Grand Theft Auto 5 features a dog named Chop, who can be outfitted with different collars and accessories. The heart-rending part? You can lose him. As somebody who occasionally struggles to find his door keys while holding them in the other hand, I am definitely going to lose Chop. Probably in the desert, of which there appears to be rather a lot in GTA 5. Ah well, at least he'll have plenty to eat out there - the game features 15 species of wild animal, all of whom can be killed for sport and, one assumes, nutrition.
The details arrive care of the latest issue of Famitsu (which arrives care of fan translations) - GTA 5 launches on 10th October in Japan, not far behind the UK and US release date of 17th September. You can see Chop briefly in the first GTA 5 gameplay trailer, which I've reposted below.
