Finding a new ride in Grand Theft Auto 5 isn't difficult - that would somewhat defeat the point of the game - but not all that goes on four wheels (or two wings, or one keel, or whatever) has been created equal. Weary of cruising around Los Santos downtown, bloodshot magpie eye peeled for slightly shinier-looking sports cars and SUVs on the corners? Get out of fifth gear, my friend, by finding and swiping one of the below, higher octane or extra-quirky implements of transportation. A few points, before we start: you'll only be able to keep a vehicle for good if you have somewhere to store it. Fortunately, all three main characters have access to one or more garages, and Trevor begins his part of the game as owner of the Sandy Shores hangar, which contains a helipad. Thus, providing you've got far enough into the story, all you'll need to worry about is buying a marina slip where you can save a boat - these can be found at Puerto Del Sol, and cost $75,000 each. Strapped for cash? Here's how to make a million dollars in GTA 5.

To save a vehicle, simply drive it into the storage space and leave it there for a few seconds. Bear in mind that at the time of writing there's a bug that stops vehicles saving to garages, hangars and marinas consistently - Rockstar is working on a fix. Now, onward!
1. HVY Dump
This could be the biggest ground vehicle in the game, its massive tyres swallowing up two whole road lanes (together with anything and anybody stupid enough to linger in your path). It's also incredibly slow and struggles to climb even the gentlest incline, so it probably won't become your chill-mobile of choice, but anybody looking to flatten cop cars for a bit should take an interest. The HVY Dump can be found in Davis Quarry, to the north-east of the island, not far from where you meet Trevor.
2. The Space Docker
It's a converted dune buggy that's made up to resemble the Lunar Vehicle - we think. You'll find it by gathering all the spaceship parts that litter the island (hint: bring Chop along and he'll sniff out hidden collectibles), then returning with them to Omega. The car comes with lurid green headlights, which is rather exciting. Alas, it doesn't appear to be actually space-capable.

3. The 747
Leviathans of the clouds await in the hangars of Los Santos International Airport. I managed to infiltrate the place by way of a gate on the airports lower level, but Aoife has some more structured advice: "Use a bike to clear a ramp into the Los Santos International Airport. You'll receive a three star rating as soon as you touch the ground, so use the bike to approach one of the jets and board it to take off. Once you leave the airport airspace, your wanted rating will disappear."

Those angling for a larger prize should bear in mind that you can only board the 747 by approaching the rear wheels. It's a slow-mover, naturally, but it's immensely tough - anything short of the fighter jets that spawn when you reach a five-star Wanted rating will simply bounce off. There are also cargo planes at Los Santos airport, which may be worth acquiring if you're planning to spend a lot of time in GTA Online - you can use them to transport other vehicles (and their occupants).

4. The Rhino Tank
If it's military hardware you're after, look no further than Fort Zancudo north and west of the city. Within, you'll find Rhino Tanks, Canis Crusader jeeps and P-996 Lazer fighter jet. It's a tempting assortment, but the area is incredibly well-defended. An acquaintance of ours advises equipping Franklin with body armour, acquiring a fast sports car and using his special ability to evade the troops/take corners at speed.
5. Atlantic Truffade Z-Type
As uncovered by Youtube user Nippton, the Truffade is a $10 million vintage diamond that's modelled on the real-life Bugatti Type 57SC, of which only 10 were ever made. That explains the mind-boggling price tag, then. Truth be told, I haven't managed to find the car in the world yet - as far as I know, the only way to get hold of one is to buy it from Legendary Motorsport. Any pointers?

6. The Police Predator patrolboat
They can be hard to reach, for obvious reasons, but if you head to the beach at the island's southern tip, you should eventually spot one coasting around in the shallows. Simply pop a few caps in the driver to disable it, then swim out to the boat and take care of any remaining resistance.
7. Nagasaki Blazer off-road bike
One of my favourite rides, though not one that provides much protection from the elements. They're dotted all over, but you'll definitely find a specimen at Paleto Beach on the northern tip of the island. The beach is also a pretty good place to test the beast's mettle, though the Chiliad Mountain Slate Wilderness to the south-west is rougher on the treads. If you're after more horsepower, consider the BF Injection roadster (you'll find them parked all over Grapeseed). That turboboost packs a punch.

8. The Buzzard Attack Helicopter
Leave the city and follow the island coast round towards the Tataviam Mountains to the east, watching for a right turn-off which takes you to the National Office of Security Enforcement. Head to the roof, put on the Airwolf theme and take that bird for a spin over downtown.
