GTA 5's mid-September launch date makes it one of the last big releases for the current generation - publisher Take-Two has rebuffed suggestions that the game will ultimately leap to next-gen. Just two months later, the Xbox One will be unleashed into the wild - but will we be ready for it, or will we be tempted to stick with Los Santos? Industry analysts aren't sure. Lewis Ward, an analyst at the International Data Corporation, has told Game Informer that American interest in next gen consoles is weak, and that the next-gen launch won't harm GTA 5's sales."A lot of gamers are going to stick by their Xbox 360s, Wii/Wii Us, and PS3s at least until the 2014 holiday season, when the game catalog will be a lot bigger and some of the online kinks will have been worked out," he said. "That also means that games like GTA V should have plenty of runway to sell well in the meantime, as long as they deliver the goods."

Another analyst, Billy Pidgeon, agrees, telling GameInformer that he believed GTA 5 would probably set new sales records. "I'd expect the game to have a positive influence on [current-gen] hardware sales, particularly when bundled with hardware by retailers. If there are concurrent price drops for Xbox 360 and PS3, that positive effect will be even stronger."
However Jesse Divnich, analyst and vice president for Electronic Entertainment Design and Research, disagrees. "PlayStation 4 and Xbox One continue to stay at the top of the [pre-order] charts on Amazon.com. Consumers are clearly excited for the next generation of consoles to launch.
"I don't foresee one current generation game, no matter how large it is, impacting the start of the next generation of consoles," he added.
It's a tough call. On one hand, Xbox One pre-orders are beginning to sell out in select stores, but on the other, every time a new Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer is released, the internet breaks under the huge amount of traffic it attracts. Are you planning on getting both GTA V and the Xbox One on day one? Or, if you have to choose, which one are you currently leaning towards?
