So GTA Online is finally a thing that can be experienced by ordinary mortals - and in the most shocking news imaginable, a fair few of those ordinary mortals are reporting technical problems. Don't say Rockstar didn't warn you all, boys and girls. Bugs reported range from an inability to access GTA Online at all, through console crashes and corrupted multiplayer characters, to a glitch that appears to affect where your single player character is in the world. Here's a hopefully not-too-representative selection from freelance writer Javy Gwaltney.
@kezamacdonald I've seen the intro and then my character's been corrupted. Also screwed up my place in single player apparently :/

@kezamacdonald jumped me ahead in Trevor's story by about four missions (new playthrough)

Character for GTAO corrupted. Have to do another one. Also seems to have messed with my place in the game's storyline. Be careful peeps.

For more in that vein, read this Rockstar news thread. Hey, it wouldn't be the launch of a major multiplayer title without controller-shattering frustration and the aroma of smoking motherboards.
"To everyone going online for the first time today, if you have any technical difficulties, the place to report issues is to our dedicated Support Team at: http://support.rockstargames.com or http://twitter.com/rockstarsupport," notes a developer post at the top of the thread. "And if you have any non-technical related feedback or suggestions to make, please send us a note at [email protected] and we'll have a look. Thanks all!"Rockstar is also active in the depths of the thread, assuring individual users that repairs are underway. "As we've mentioned, there are bound to be a few technical issues in these early days of GTA Online," reads one response. "Please be patient and know that we are working hard to smooth them out."
The developer is investigating the following issues in particular, as reported by Eurogamer.
- Occasional "Rockstar Cloud Servers Unavailable" error message.
- Freezing sometimes while loading into first race in GTAO with "waiting for other players" on the screen.
- Intermittent "Failed to Host a GTA Online Session" error messages.
You might want to come back in a few hours. A few days, even. Has anybody here got GTA Online working yet?
