-This is my first post. I'm sorry if this has been answered but I have looked and looked.
-Im looking into buying a new hdd to go with my X3. While looking at the hard drives I see the different interfaces. Which interface do I need or does it matter. When I say interface I am talking about the ATA 100, ATA 133 and such. Thanks for your help.

Doesn't matter. The interface on the mobo is only ATA33, so don't worry about it. Just make sure to get a Western Digital, Maxtor, or Seagate.

Well, I think that is a very small percentage. Not enough to worry about. Just worry about getting the biggest hard drive for the best deal. Myself? I would only buy WD, Maxtor, or Seagate. I suppose if I HAD to recommend one of the above, I would go with Maxtor, but that isn't a strong preference.

Wow... this is almost like instant messenger. :) Well, I've heard nothing but good from my friends about newegg.com. I've never used them, but my friends and family have: they loved newegg.com. So... they SHOULD be okay.

Newegg not reliable...heh

I've spent thousands of dollars at newegg over more than 4 years now I believe...they have the best service - period.

Throw Hitachi into the mix of good HDD manufacturers, in place of Western Digital.

Just for the input, my brand new WD combusted and caught on fire while in my box. But I think it was a freak accident. My two cents.

That 200 gig you are looking at is the one I had, that caught on fire.

from my experience, id say western digital hds are extremely reliable, i'm the only person i know thats ever killed one and thats primarily cause i put them through hell all the time. as for seagate, i've been told that the quality is just a little less than wd, but they are a crapload quiter, which is actually pretty noticeable in an xbox. as for maxor, boo, thats all i have to say, i see those things crap out left and right.

as for newegg, ive never known anyone who thought they didn't rule all, and when i've ordered from them in the past, they've been easy to work with and sometimes shipped even faster than expected. as for tigerdirect, i haven't seen or heard anything from/about them in years, but as far as i can recall, their kinda like the american computer equivalent of divineo (which, if that doesn't make sense, means their pretty shady).

as for veritas, dude i don't even know what to say to you, you just have some freakishly bad luck, i havent met anyone yet whose pulled off that kinda problem with any component. good luck with the warranty on that one.

TigerDirect = sh*t

Newegg is by far the best internet reseller of computer products. i have never had one problem with them and i have also spent thousands of dollars with them in the past few years. they are not just good... they are AWESOME. i highly recomend them to anyone.

but pretty much with your hard drive - stick with a major brand of HD and you will be fine. get the biggest one you can afford. the space will not go to waste ;)

I've spent like 2 Grand at TigerDirect over the last 2 years, never had a problem worth mentioning. BUT... after reading all those glowing posts about Newegg.com I had to check it out. Looks like I could have have saved between $10 and $20 on each of the items I just ordered from TigerDirect. Crap!

personly i would suggest WD, I have 6 drives from WD (including the one that came in the xbox) and they are all working great.
