:( Installed the mod, but now the Hard drive won't spin up.
Any hints to why would be helpful.
If the cable is not pluged into the motherboard the HD will spinup.
What could cause this?

more details about the problem would be more helpful.

Extracting the drive key from a motherboard

It use to be, as far as I know, only possible to get the drive key off a motherboard using a programmer. But now with the XNand/JTAG being so popular, I'm guessing/hoping that there is a way to get the key w/o having to JTAG the console. Part of Jtagging a 360 involves accessing the Nand/EEPROM. I know there are programs which allow you to read the EEPROM such as PonyProg and LiveInfo and have them both downloaded. So I guess the question is, what would I need to do to gain access to my EEPROM? It goes without saying that I would need to connect my comp to my Xbox via an LPT connector. Perhaps just knowing what pins that need to be connected on my 360 mobo and then where to run connections to my LPT? Usually I look to only puchase boards with Hitachi drives. So they are usually Xenon mobo's. Any help is appreciated!!

Re: Extracting the drive key from a motherboard

they have to have exploitable dashboards. check dash versions
2.0.7371 or less are jtagable, dash 2.0.8xxx or higher are not jtagable.

Re: Extracting the drive key from a motherboard

Thanks for responding mightywiz! Now I know that when you update your dashboard so far, it burns out the "e" kernal on the CPU chip and that stops you from being able to JTAG the console. But what if I was just looking to read the nand for the original key and not Jtagging it? Does that "e" kernal have to be intact to just do that?

I sometimes pick up 360's cheap on Ebay, fix them if possible and then sell them. A lot of times people will sell just the mobo. A broken 360 can bring in more $ if it's pieced out. So often they will sell the drive alone or it has been damaged beyond being able to get the drive key off it. If I was able to get the key from the motherboard, it would expand my buying options.

I came up with an idea on how to do this, but it would depend on if that "e" kernal needs to be intact to read the nand. I was thinking of getting a Nand-X/JTAG kit and just using the nand portion of the kit in. Once I was done, I could just desolder the QSB's and remove the pins for another time. But again, that all depends on if the dash upgrade prevents reading the nand.
