I have access to several USB-2 Iomega REV drives. These are removeable carterage magnetic platter drives. Native capacity is 35 gigs and I think it would be really neat to boot games off of them. I have done backups to one of these drives in excess of 2 gigs a min so I think the IO speed would work. My plan would be to just store games on the carterages to avoid buying a really big HD. I'm using a 60 gig drive at the moment in my X3 1.6 XBox. Please let me know what you guys think, has anyone elst thought of this?

PS. they show up as CDrom drives in windows

From what I understand of the Xbox hardware, the controller ports are USB1s. You can use USB2s with them, but you only get USB1 speed.

While this wouldn't affect backing up HDD data negatively, I'm not sure if it'll limit gameplay with transfer speeds. Of course, the DVD-ROMs are 4x (I think), so that probably wouldn't be an issue.

I imagine it's more a matter of getting the device to read the controller port as a DVD or harddisk, which could be done with some knowledge of programming, I imagine (which I don't have  ).
