Well it does not support USB drives and that is the only way I can get me system to see a password protected hard Drive like those used in the Xbox. That’s pretty much is what I have found when it comes to password protect HD's, if my system cannot initialize the drive on an IDE port it’s a no go. I do have a prog that will wipe a drive no matter what as long as it is seen by the system it too does not support USB.

I still have not tried an older PC with ATA33 or worse Ha-Ha to see if I can get by this little hang-up I've run into. Rumors has it they tend to ignore the password on a hardware level thus allowing you access to the drive with software such as this prog
LiveInfo Beta.

I will keep plugin at it till I get some break through with this. As this would be a nice added portion to my Data Recovery I offer.:D

OK still good, thanks for that confirmation, Martin C
So once you get your xbox modded you should be able to unlock/lock your old drive with your backed up EEPROM. Seems to be the only way to do it but I going to get around this if it kills me, you hear me Micro$oft:D

Yeah well I guess I didnt' back up my EEPROM, **** there goes 160 GIGS, unless I would get a EEPROM reader and just unsolder it and get the contects read. I think I'm gonna cry.

Nm I did, but that stupid program to unlock the harddrive on your computer isnt working, I have a question could I flash my 1.4 xbox with my old xbox's 1.0 eeprom, and would it work , I would switch it back to the 1.4 once I went on live, just I want to try unlocking it with config magic.

Didn't you say LiveInfo Beta 2 read the key off your drive?

Ok heres an update on my scenario. I got a new xbox, and got the backup of the old EEPROM onto my desktop, and tryed the info live thing again, key didnt work, may have been the HDD unlock program, who know. I'm just wondering is there some way I can do the unlock on my xbox. I heard that I can't flash the 1.4 xbox with my 1.0 eeprom since the data is different, but the 1.1-1.5 eeproms are the same. I also know that Liveinfo can swtich between 1.0 and 1.1, but when I open my eeprom backup it shows up as a 1.1, dont really know what is up there, since my old xbox is most definaly a 1.0(2 hours of desoldering). So dont know whats up there. Is there anyother way that I could unlock the harddrive, like boot Config off a CD, use the load EEPROM.bin command, and unlock it thought there. Any ideas thanks

If you have the EEPROM backed up, then this will work:

1. Open it in LiveInfo - note the HDDKey. Remember, the HDD Key is NOT the same as the password!

2. Boot your Xbox with a good working HDD. Run ConfigMagic. Note the current HDD Key (again, not the password).

3. Unlock the HDD, then select edit on-the-fly EEPROM. Replace the HDD Key with the one you got from LiveInfo. This is why it's vital you note down the current one as you'll be putting it back after.

4. Save the changes and reload the EEPROM data. You should now see the new HDD Key appear etc.

5. CAREFULLY swap HDDs- start by removing the power cable, then the IDE. Plug in locked 160GB again very carefully. Do the power cable 1st, then IDE.

6. Select Read EEPROM again and the new HDD information should appear.
7. With fingers crossed, select unlock HDD.

Now I'm definatly confused, the key was already there, the exact one. Well I guess somehow new eeprom was backed up to the X3, without me telling it to do so. :(. O well guess I'm going to have to find someone with a EEPROM reader, and have them extract the contents, wow this really sucks, I never told it to backup, and the first thing I did was get the old EEPROM off the chip

I am not a big fan of what I am going to tell you so here it goes and do this at your own risk. Must have a Modded Xbox to do this with an aftermarket drive.

1) Open your working Xbox and move the drives to the side but still hooked up.

2) Take your HD Molex power connector out of the back of the Hard Drive and add a power Y splitter to it.

3) Hook one end of the power Y to the stock drive and the other end to your LOCKED drive.

4) Now be ready to do a hot swap of the IDE cable from the stock drive to your LOCKED drive. May want to remove the HD out of the Drive Tray to make it easier.

5) Power on your Xbox and boot it up until the intro flubber animation is finishing, now initiate the hot swap. You should have the drives IDE connection swapped before the little white "Micro$oft" logo appears on screen.

6) If all goes well you should be able to UNLOCK your HD in X3CL if not redo these steps

Hmm, so this rewrites the hdd lock key I'm guessing. What would be the consequences if this went wrong?

Consequences-Voltage spike during the hotswap via the IDE connector

Basically it thinks the drive has been unlocked* via its password check and the system has full access to it.

* Virtually Unlocked: System has access to drive contents but still has to be checked during ever reboot. Or until its unlocked thru X3CL or any other drive locking/unlocking software for the Xbox
