Bad news, fans of highly coordinated assaults on terrorist-infested complexes. Gamestop has delisted Rainbow 6: Patriots and is no longer taking preorders for the game, implying that Ubisoft has canned it. "We have nothing further to share about Rainbow 6: Patriots at this time," Ubisoft told IGN when pushed to comment. Other retailers such as Amazon and GAME continue to allow pre-orders. So, what's going on here then? The last time we heard anything about Patriots was in November 2011. Crafted by Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Red Storm, the game pits a squad of elite soldiers against ultra-nationalist North American terrorists, and will (let's hope) offer enhanced squad control and combat manoeuvres, a multiplayer mode where you plot out tactics on a VR "sandtable" in advance of the match, and a plot held together by "difficult ethical decisions". Oh, and there will be cake.
We'll send Ubisoft and Gamestop a comment request of our own. It's possible the publisher has rebooted the project, and that it will resurface at either E3 or Microsoft's next gen Xbox reveal next week - Patriots is one of a number of confirmed Xbox 720 games. Fingers crossed.
