Have I already cocked up?

Hi there,

Ok am a complete n00b with JTAG so excuse my ignorance.

I got a coolrunner a few weeks back and promptly soldered it in to the box - a fat one.

Anywho.... I have just a tut for n00bs and it says I should have installed the nandx and dumped the NAND before programming and installing the Coolrunner.

If I remember correctly there was something I read on these forums that explained that the xbox would not boot (e79, which mine is doing now) if the coolrunner had no code to execute. So have I already fallen at the first hurdle and if so how should I get back on track?

Yes you have to dump and patch the Nand. Might I suggest using the Nand x (make sure it has V3 code installed in it, if you buy a older one V2, like I did; then you update the code via you Ck3i). Then you update your Coolrunner with the correct timing file.

Make sure you have both the CK3i to Nandx cable and, the Nand x to Coolrunner cable.

Explain exactly what I have done to date......

Well I had an old xbox - still working of course, lt+2.0 but not flagged.

I soldered the wires for the Coolrunner without QSB boards because the ones I had looked wrong/old.

I have NOT installed the NANDX or wires to do it yet.

I have checked the CoolRunner powers on and it does but I get E79 when booting.

The short question is can I dump the NAND with the NANDX leaving the CoolRunner in place or do I have to remove the soldered points for the CoolRunner and start all from scratch. Is it even possible to dump the NAND with the box giving E79?

Also I might add this, The Reset Glitch Hack (RGH) and, Jtag are merely two different means to get you 360 to run unsigned code, so your Coolrunner is a RGH not a Jtag'd console, however both ways produce the same results.

Your patched Nand will not boot until you have a way to "glitch" the console to run it. In your case the Coolrunner wasn't programed to glitch the console, and you have a stock Nand; so it produced a error.

You need to dump, patch and, rewrite the Nand to the console. Then program the Coolrunner with the specific timing files to you 360 Mobo. Then the conwill boot your patched nand.

On another note Jtag was an older way to get the console to "Glitch" if you would, but M$ patched in when they updated to Dashboard 2.0.8498.0 back in 8/11/2009.

Yes you can leave the Coolrunner in place just install the QSB for the Nand X. You don't need to turn your console on to dump the Nand, just make sure the power is plugged into the back

I might warn you that, if you take a non-banned console, than RGH, or Jtag'd it and, connect to Live you will be banned.
