I noticed there are a lot of posts on this topic so I thought I'd make a tutorial to try and prevent more and more of these forgotten password posts.

First thing to check is if you are putting in the correct password.
-A lot of ppl are entering in the same password you set it to but the X3 says you have entered in the wrong password.
-The X3 only will take the 1st 8 characters of your password. So if you put in a 10 character password, just enter in the first 8...I think this will fix most of the problems.

If you just plain forgot what password you set you will need erase your x3 eeprom
-hold A B X Y on startup (X3 3209 Bios)

Good post - I'll sticky this..

I'll just add these two notes:

1. Remember to Flash Evox M8plus16 if you have a 1.6/1.6b.
2. You don't have to reflash X3 - you can flash the X2 / Evox BIOS to a spare 256k Bank and boot from it. Your X3 1959/plus16 BIOS will still remain on the original banks.

I'll just edit my post and put those notes in.

Fixed it, heres what you do.

Flash new bios using backup

Use boxplorer bootdisk to delete any dashs (apart from msdash) you have. Reboot the box and hold white, enter the right pass and you'll be greated with x3 config live as well as the new 3029 bios :)

Thats a lot of extra work you don't need to do...all you have to do is enter the password and as soon as you press Y press the white button quickly afterwards. I guarentee you that works...I've tested it myself.

How are you going to flash to the other banks with FlashBIOS that only flashes to the first part of the flash? You could flash a 2MB bios with X3 on 1-4 and the other bios on a different bank though.

How could just forget your password anyways? If you dont go on the XBOX much, you dont need one. And if you did, shouldnt you remember it by putting it in so much. And WHY doyou need to password proctect your box anyways??? To keep Mum from seeing your p*rn EvoX/etc. Skin?

Another way with the newer bios releases...2913 and beyond...hold A+B+X+Y on startup...wait for reboot then boot to X3CL...this does the same thing and erases the X3 eeprom.

Thanks so much for this - was on the verge of throwing the chip cos my 9 digit password wouldn't work. Tried with 8 and in first time. Thanks also for the instructions on how to use the x3_erase - I haven't found that anywhere else. You've been a great help.

YESSS. I thought I was screwed until I read your sticky. Many thanks, the 8 character limit was the problem!

So if this doesn't work, does it mean that I've got a problem with my chip install? I've exhausted all available options. I've got 3 solid blue LED's and my D0 is showing red, but is it possible there is still a problem? What should I be looking at?
