I have a Seagate FreeAgent Go external hard drive (500 GB). I know that I can remove it from the case and it would be like a regular SATA drive that I can fit into a laptop. I want to know if I can use this drive for an HD upgrade to use in a JTAG/ RGH console (low on cash right now). The question is whether it will be accepted/ recognized by the console. I don't care about transfering any data or gamertag. I just want to format it and start from scratch.

All the information I found on upgrade drives says to use the WD Bevs but that info is very old and I wonder if there is more flexibility now, especially using a JTAG/ RGH console that uses a custom dashboard. If this is provided in another thread/ post can you please provide me the link.

Thanks.

for JTAG and RGH, you don't need to do anything special to the drive, and any type works

if yours is a laptop HDD, you could just replace the HDD in an official Microsoft HDD casing

Freeboot will recognize it and let you format it to whatever you wish
