Hi there, if someone could point me in the direction of some information, that would be really great. Ok what im curious about is takeing my Xbox HDD and pluging it in to one of the IDE chanels on my PC, then backing up that data for later use. I have a fairly nice machine, and a lagre external drive that I like to keep all my stuff on. However im on dialup so downloading bitrorrents, or off of FTP sites isnt exactly easy for me. So what im saying is that I want to save all my stuff off of my XboxHDD on to My external so that I have this stuff backed up incase my HDD dies or I screw something up I have it. Sorry im a totaly newbe I looked around for a tutorial on this subject but wansnt able to find the answer. Not really shure how it would work with the file system with windows vs. the Xbox file system. Thanks just need to be pointed in the right direction, I can figure it out from there!

you don't really need to take your XBOX hard drive. Simply network your xbox to your PC and FTP the files over. Most modern PC'S have a network card so this should not be a problem.

As standard your PC would not be able to read data from your Xbox hard disk as it uses a different file system. You would have to use extra software so networking is your best and easiest option.

No thats great advice, and I just got done reading a bit about how to do that. Im no stranger to home networking, but im new to FTP and how that all works. However this is my situation, A friend gave me this Xbox.(please see this post for an introduction to my current situation==> http://www.teamxecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36678 ) So until my new chip shows up in the mail, I dont have the ability to FTP from my Xbox (HDD is unlocked), I dont mind downloading a program to do this and I certainly dont mind learning how to use new software. I have been building custom computers for a while, although Im new to the whole Xbox sceene, I think that this shouldnt be too hard. Just point me in the right direction and watch me go! lol thanks for the FTP advice, once I have my Xbox up and going that will be the way I will do my backups. Although it would be nice to know another way incase something happens to the HDD or Mobo. Just a program name or a Link to a Tutorial on how to do this would be great, I have been looking this whole time and have been very unsucessful at finding what im looking for. Im on dialup so my connection is very slow and many of the webpages I have been to the links are broken for their tutorials ; ; Thanks for the help TeamX!

Oh one more thing, I have an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo in my PC that has two built in network controlers a Mavel and an nVidiea. I also have Netgear FS108 ethernet switch and a few crossover cables. I think I'm ok for FTPing from my PC to my Xbox. Also its tought to do some of this research with my dialup connection, just wish I had a faster internet connection! Alas not even ISDN is available here, let alone a DSL or Cable/T1 connection. Futermore there is no way I'm going to pay $60 a month on Satalite Internet and have a ping of 10000-6000 or worse. So you see my options are limited at the moment.

Hey guys figured it out... and yeah its a bastard. Finaly Xboxsceen allowed me to look at their tutorials, yesterday for some reason I couldnt acess them at all. Anyways if your curious how to do this, I just followed one of the guides for changeing your stock HDD to a Large HDD with no modchip. Seemed to work ok, though I skiped a bunch of steps since all I wanted to do was put the data off my my Xbox HDD onto my backup drive on my PC so i'm not going to post the link since it isnt even about backing up a HDD onto PC with no network. I might write a short Tutorial but it seems that nobody really cares since FTP and HTTP are part of the X3 bios software and what im doing isnt really something moast ppl would want to bother with. Oh and btw it was a total bastard since I had to dig out one of my old PCs with WIN98 on it so that I could make a boot disk (used to know how to just make one but been years since I took that class) Also had to disable my SATA controler and a bunch of other stuff on the PC end of things. No wonder nobody was too eager about doing this.
