HDD, cables, and solderless ?

ok im wondering if anyone know if a maxtor 250 gig ultra16 (ultra133 with 16mb cache) will work to unlock/lock and if i can replace the ide cable with a 40 pin ultra cable on the xbox? and has anyone tried another partys solderless adapter that works for v1.6 using an X3, im wondering if the X3 is running of the 5volts or does it run off 3.3 volts for the chips?
