Right here goes,

2 xbox's, for simplicity sake i will call them A and B.

B's original HDD is knackered so i thought i would put in my old HDD from A, (since A has had a 120gb hdd upgrade recently.)

I put the old HDD back in A and unlocked it.
then
Stuck the now unlocked old HDD into B.

Boot up....low and behold i get Error code 06????

so shall i either?

put original HDD back into B, backup C & E onto pc. Then put old HDD back into A and then ftp B's C & E's info onto it?

or

put original HDD back into B, backup C & E onto pc. Then put old HDD back into a and format it...therfore wiping it i presume? Stick it back into B Then using evox boot disc ftp back into B and restore backed up settings.

i am swaying towards option 1....or am i completly of the mark and something totally different is happening??????

I have done standard HDD upgrades and i thought this would be easier!!! lol

Cheers

perhaps some more info which i missed may help.

box a is as per my signature below,

box b is a V1.0 running x2.6ce, 4983.67 bios

old HDD from A is a Western Digital,

I tried option 1 and got the same result, fragging and error code 6.

box b's old hdd once put back in works ok (its error is only intermittent luckily)

Box A's old HDD (the one i was trying to get into B works fine back in A, or did before i overwrote C&E with the backup of B's old HDD.)

If anyone can add light to this please do... sorry if i have missed anything, have tried to put as much detail as possible.

cheers

if both hard drives are unlocked and both xbox's are chipped there shouldnt be a problem. just make sure that the hard drive you want to put in B is unlocked and that B is a chipped console. provided that the 120gb has already been used working in a console, you shouldnt have to back up any files.

Hi & thanks for the reply

used Evox to unlock it! Do you think it may of not done it properly?

I have ConfigMagic on my pc, do you think it is worth sticking on my xbox and giving that a go?

Cheers

Yep both are chipped and the old hdd from A i want to put in B was unlocked via evox.

it is totally bizzare,

if i put the old "unlocked" HDD from A into B Ooops something has gone wrong Error 6 & Frag
If i put it back into A it works fine!!!
If i put B's old HDD back into B, that works fine, indicating IDE & power are ok.

Perhaps evox is simply not unlocking it???

Is there any Version compatability issues, a v1.4 HDD does not go into a V1.0.

Finally i am thinking, sod it why not get a new bigger HDD for B. But i don't want to shell out money for the exact same thing to happen!

ok i think you should boot up a copy of configmagic and try unlocking it that way, i use the X3 bios to unlock mine but being as you have an X2.6 ce then im not sure if the bios for that has the same capability. but i suggest trying configmagic, and advantage of that is that if you lock the hard drive with configmagic it sets a master password incase something happens to your console and you cant unlock the hard drive. but ye, try configmagic.

hope this helps

i think flashbios allows you to unlock / lock the hard drive, its still on bank 2 so i might give that a go first?

After that, yeah i'll give configmagic a go.

Config magic

I am experiencing a similar situation. My X-Box just died. completely and the HDD was locked when it happened. The drive is still good so I have a new Xbox now. same version. but the Old HDD is giving me the same exact message. I can't unlock it. I want to give this config Magic a try. where can I locate it.

thanks

well config magic is available from xbins

although i think you may still be screwed as you can only unlock it from its original mobo, i.e. you can't stick it in a new xbox and then unlock it.
