I am wondering what hard drive you are currently using with your xbox 360. I am looking for one with low failure rates and at a good price but it is becoming difficult. How do you like the one you have? If I bought an external that got it's power from the usb slot what is the downside to that?

I have a western digital 1tb 2.5, and I haven't had a problem with it.
But that was a year ago. I don't think you'll be able to find one now.
Haven't tried an external drive.

I'm currently using an old 80GB HDD from my laptop.

Haven't had any problems so far, although I've only just got the rgh up and running today ;).

If I were looking for a new drive, I'd probably go for a Seagate / WD 2.5" 7200RPM.

Dont care for Seagates much since I've had a couple fail on me over the years. Usually go WD but I just bought a 2tb hitachi external for my slim rgh. Got it on sale for $100 which is pretty good these days. Working awesome so far.:D

I fitted a Samsung 1TB into the Xbox 360 Caddy.

I started out originally with an External but the 16GB Microsoft partition was filled in seconds with a wad of DLC !!

Using the disk in the caddy allows the full drive to be used for DLC or a good part of it.

Also be very careful buying External Hard disks to remove the 2.5" drive. I had both Western Digital And Samsung USB boxes with proprietary connectors.

Once upon a time the caddy's contained simple SATA 2.5" hard disks, this no longer appears to be the case.
