Help! 2.6CE on 1.4 xbox -> No Video (LED is solid green, but turns orange in 15 sec)

Hi all,

I'm having problems installing X2.6CE on 1.4 xbox. Chip is installed and when turn on the led is solid green, but turns orange in about 15 sec. There is no sound or video. Stangely when pressing eject, it does not open, but flashed a couple of times in green, then becomes solid green again. After a 15 sec it turns orange again.

When modchip off no problem...

I installed serveral 2.2 and 2.3 modchips over the last months and had no problems, this is my first 2.6. I have checked, rechecked the LPC and D0.

Anyone any clue??

make sure you're using the standard a/v cable that came with the box and that it is connected properly

Update::

UPDATE::
This morning I desoldered D0 to see if there was anychange in behaviour. (if not then the soldering was wrong)

When I did the eject LED flashed between green and red (FRAG?) as expected. When I resolderd D0 back the behaviour described before returned.
So this comfirms to me that the soldering of D0 is good.

Now I suspect my x2.6 CE modchip it self. Are there any test I can do to find out what is wrong? Maybe the chip is badly preflashed? For instance with a non compatible (to xbox v1.4) Cromwell bios. Does any one knows how a 1.4 xbox behaves when its flashed with an incompatible Cromwell version?

At this point I see only one option left to do.. Hot flash the chip :-Z . (I have an 2.2PRO in another xbox.) But before I do this risky operation I hope someone can tell me anything about the behaviour of a non compatible cromwell bios in a 1.4 xbox.

I wouldn't think it is a problem with flashbios version. The oldest 2.6 chips came with flashbios 2.6, which worked on a 1.4 Xbox. If there wasn't a bios on there, you would get a frag.

Why is it expected to frag with the D0 not connected? That is the same as turning the chip off.

Ok that must then be because the normal bios kicked in and detected that I did not have my DVD drive connected, which I did not connect.

Mmm, ok so if not the preflashed bios then what else? If the there was a splat of thin somewhere on the motherboard (which I checked now twice) I would expect that the normal bios would also have a problem with it. But when chip is off (and DVD and HD are normally connected) then there are no problems....

Now I totally suspect the chip it self. Are there any tests I can do to confirm this?

Some Progress with help of X2.2 PRO

UPDATE::

I managed to get hold of a 1.1 xbox with a 2.2 PRO. Scoped the chip out of the 1.1 and fitted into the 1.4. Placed it right on top of the header (last pins are over) and resolder ground an D0 (you should see this what a hack job ;-)) But it guess what ... it works... :)

So Summerizing...

I have a 1.4 xbox with a X2.6CE modchip, which turn off boots correctly MS dash. When turn on eject led is solid green, but becomes solid orange after 15 sec.
When i replace modchip with a X2.2 PRO it works. (Modchip off MS dash, modchip on executer logo appears)

Question: Can I conclude from this that the X2.6CE is faulty?

BTW I'm thinking about putting the X2.6 in the v1.1 and check what is does. But not today ;-) I do not want take the 1.1 apart again and soldering AGAIN... pfff...

Question: What is the best thing I can do now? Besides "return the chip", like my girlfriend suggested..

UPDATE::
I placed the X2.6CE into the v1.1 xbox (which previously had the X2.2PRO) and the X2.6CE has the same behavior as in the 1.4 xbox... The modchip as a fault... Im stongly thinking about returning my new X2.6 Modchip :-(

Final (and concluding) UPDATE::
Just wanted to let you now my progress on my problem...

I managed to borrow (thanks joene) a programmer and followed the tutorial in this form. The chip is recognized as a 2.3lite chip, which is correct. Erasing works perfectly (incl verify). The flashing starts (flashing 256kb at 0x0....), however after 3% it suddenly stops. (Note that the PC and programmer work, because I tested it with another 2.6 chip.)

Tried this several times with same result. After this extensive testing I concluded that my modchip EEPROM is DOA and I'm going to send it back.
Note that after the flashing, the behavior of the xbox with modchip has changed. With modchip on it now FRAG's (with modchip off no problem).

Note that I have modded more xbox in the past all with xecuter chips and had never a problem. My supplier is willing to take back the chip so I have good hopes that everything will work out nicely. I just hope that this thread will help people to determine more quickly, wether modchip is functional or not.
