I am a teacher at a small, rural high school. I am trying to make a gaming club for some of my students. I am building this club so that they have a safe place to stay and be themselves. I have been able to secure a STACK of old Xbox 360's. They are all PHat models, and everyone of them had RROD. So far, I have been able to fix every one of them!

Except one. This Xbox was donated to the club by a student. It works fine, however it will only play DVD's and will not play games (you probably know where I am going with this).

After talking to the student, it seems that he tried to change the DVD drive after the old one had disc read errors. After he and his Dad replaced the DVD drive, they threw the old one out.

So, by now, you probably realize that I have an Xbox with a DVD drive with the wrong key.

I have seen a few tutorials on Youtube about this, but I need some really specific help. Such as; do I need something like the USB360? to extract the key from the motherboard and put it on the replacement DVD drive?

I am not trying to burn games or anything like that, I just want this Xbox 360 to run again for my students. The goal is to have 15 working boxes when I am all done. Please help and thank you.

The tools you would need will cost more then the console is worth im affraid..your best option is to put in and request in the "request service" area and have it repaired for a good price

I really think that I will have a few more boxes like this come my way. I would like to attempt to repair because most of the boxes that come my way are broken or tampered with. Do you know what I might need to perform this repair?

You will have to RGH your console to get dvdkey from motherboard. For that you will need xnand or jr programmer. Then you will need glicher (CR4 or any other that is compatible to your xbox motherboard). And a soldering station, some software.

Thank you so much for trying to help me. Right now, I am reading about RGHing a console and looking at xnand. This looks daunting, but hey, I am also a Physics teacher and it also looks super fun!

For more specific help you need to know what motherboard you have and which dashboard you are on. There are some useful links in my signature. All of your anwers are in these forums. I promise. Just start researching.
I am tearing the Xbox down to find out over the next few days. I'll get back to you on this. Thank you for helping me.

Try RGHing it use RGH1 or 1.2 This is if your going to buy a rev c

RGH2+ if you are using CR4

Here's a Video on how to RGH It

I also you suggest if you are going to buy a Team Xecuter product you get it from a verified re seller
Also, don't buy a CR4 many people are saying it is killing their Xbox's due to a bad batch that was sent out

So, before I make a move, I'd like to reiterate that all I want to do is get the DVD key from the motherboard and assign that key to the new DVD drive. I hope you don't mind me being redundant, but I'd like to get it right. I am a noob after all.

I have a Jasper motherboard and am using dashboard 2.0.15774.0

It seems that I need to RGH the box correct? From what you guys have said I need a NAND reader. Which NAND reader should I use? Also, where do I get one? I also need a glitch chip, which one do you experts recommend?

Cliffs:
Jasper 15774
Which NAND reader do y'all recommend?
Which glitch chip do y'all recommend?

you dont need to do temporary rgh on phats you can either get key from drive using jungleflasher or simply remove the board from your drive and install it in the replacement. which drive do you have? if its a liteon theres an extra step that you have to do but is actually not hard at all.
So, this box was donated and the previous owner changed the DVD drive without swapping motherboards and threw the old drive away. I think that's why everyone is saying that I'll have to RGH this thing to get the DVD key from the motherboard.
