I just followed the tutorial to install the X3.0.

When I turn the box on the external switch shows blue for a second, then the xbox turns off. It does this about 3 times but on the 3rd time the xbox, stays on and the eject button just flashes and I can't eject anything and no bios loads at all.

This is my first time BTW

This is called a FRAG(Flashing Red And Green). Check your solder points on the lpc points.

I have checked the solder points and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong. I even made sure they were extra neat by going over them again.

Still having the problem.

Any other sudgestions?

The only other thing it might be would be the switch settings. Put them all to the left and see if the flashBios comes up. If not( I know this is annoying) check the points again. I thought my points were perfect for the first 10 time but i got a magnifying glass and saw that some points didn't touch the board all the way. Which install method did you use? Pinheader or Wire and what xbox version do you have?

I am doing the pinhead (I think. It was the one recommended in the guide)

I think I have version 1.4

The only thing i can tell you is to redo the points again and it should work. unless you've lifted a trace or something then you've got problem!. Does the xbox work with the chip disabled?

I tried using it with chip disabled (by holding the power button in so switch is red) and I got the same problem. It just turns off after a second then comes on red again and turns blue and turns off after a second again. Have I nailed my board?

If its FRAGGING on the M$ dash it means there is a solder splash some where bridging some tracks. Get a magnifying glass and check very closely. I'm afraid this is the only way, Sorry.

Hope this helps.

Just a thought. While soldering, a black sticky substance appeared around the pins. Is this from getting the PCB plastic too hot?, can is bridge tracks?, and can it stop the solder from connecting to the track at the base of the pins?

(This is turning out to be so much harder than sudgested in the tutorial)

that black sticky stuff is residue from the solder and protective coating on the PCB more or less. if its turning black, youve heated it too much. it should only be a light brown to brownish color if soldering correctly.
the residue is non-conductive so dont worry bout that, but it can prevent the solder from making a proper contact with the point yer soldering.

Hey I am having the same problem, and the xbox does the same thing when the mod chip is disabled, I think I may have lifted a trace but I dont know what that is, I just know I lefted out one of the flat metal things on the d0 whole, from what I read if that is a trace that is bad, is there anyway at all I can put some solder in it to fill it in again???? NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!!

I am absolutely gutted to report that I have had to buy a new motherboard for my box.

I botched the soldering up so much. My advice to anyone is no matter how cheap they try to sell you a 30w soldering iron don't get it. I have just started using a friends 12w iron and it is a much cleaner, easier process.

This has been a very steep and expensive learning curve.
