I am not sure where to go for help. I am very ignorant when it comes to this type of thing.

I bought a pre modded Xbox last year for my kids. It has worked flawlessly at least until the other day. I am not sure what version I have or what chip I have. I am not even sure how to check that out. I know that when you first turn it on a screen that has Xavier across the top comes up.

Here is my problem. The main menu comes up. Then you can go to the load games from hard drive option without a problem. Then when you try to actually load the game from hard drive it will say installing for a few seconds then go right back to the main menu.

Also, when I try to launch the Microsoft dashboard it crashes and a screen that says call Microsoft pops up with a number 21 in the upper left hand corner.

Any ideas on what to do?

opening your box and taking a look at what chip you've got and then comparing it over to the pics at xbox-scene can identify which chip you've got

21 - anywhere - This error says that the machine was booted to display a error, basically someone told the machine to reboot (or launch a xbe) with this flag, and the error code just means its been rebooted by the flag

here's a thread from xbox-scene that explains alot on it

The xbox-scene link with the pictures is in the "ID your chip" link in my signature. You can use any of the multiple mod chip install tutorials around (including right on the front page) to learn how to get inside your xbox and look at the chip. You may even be able to tell by external switches if you have them. The picture you will see in the tables on Xbox-Scene link to additional images in higher resolution.

Team Xavier was a group that put together an auto installer. If this is what the "Xavier" you see on boot references then unfortunately I don't think that helps out at all.
