I've checked a bunch of the problems involving the Flashing Red and Green problem and couldn't really figure any of them out.

I'm imagining I've got a v 1.6 Xbox (it's Manufacture date is 9-17-04 but I don't know were exactly to find the version on the MB) and am using xecuter 2.6 ce with a Xapt3r solderless kit. I followed the Team Xecuter instructions for the x3 (parts of them) and K3rn3l's Xapt3r instructions.

The fact is on the inside I've got two blue lights and one red and on the outside one blue light but still have a FRAG problem with the chip activated. With the chip deactivated it runs games perfectly. I read that the DO isn't the cause of the FRAG problem, but I read somewhere else that v 1.6 has an issue with it that requires soldering (which I am NOT comfortable with cuz I'm certain I'll muck it up).

Any information i can get would be great cuz having my XBOX open like an emergency room patient is making me very anxious :(

its got to be the Xapt3r install.
i used one of these as a quick fix, it worked once i used a fibre pen on the d0 hole.

may pay you to remove and try again.

Okay, I'll give reinstallation a try. I had a hard time finding the right d0 hole, so I'm guessing that could be it. Any way to tell which hole exactly to put it in? (In a different context that last sentence could be rather embarassing)

Also, anyone know of any good guides for installing a bigger HD?

Okay GREAT. I just found out that I've got a v1.6 Xbox and I also just read that the xapt3r solderless add-on won't work with a v1.6. So this means I now have two questions:

1) Is it true that the v1.6 Xbox REQUIRES soldering and therefore won't work with the xapt3r?

2) If the answer to question 1 is "yes" then are there any other solderless options I can go with or should I just learn how to solder?

(by the way, thanks to everyone who's responded... I don't want you guys to think I'm not appreciative. )

if your soldering skills ant too good or you are unsure it would be probably best for you to get somone to do it for you m8.

the difference between the 1.6 and 1.6b is down to the memory chip (1.6 has a samsung and the 1.6b has hynix memory) either way if its one of the two types above it will need the LPC rebuild board soldered under the header plug on the mainboard.
there is now solderless adaptors like the one you mentioned and from what ive read it should work as the 2.6 is a similar pinout to the ver 3 just check your connections and make sure they are free from pcb resin.

also for a 1.6 you will need to boot from the cromwell 3.03 bios the 3.01 prob wont work (somone put me right if im wrong,i dont want to give this guy bad info)

I'm pretty sure I'm not going to touch a soldering iron. With my luck I'd not only fry my motherboard but also burn off both my hands.

As far as the "LPC rebuild board", what is it exactly? I haven't even heard of it, and I'm pretty sure it's too technical for me to do on my own.

Oh, and thanks for the help.

this is one m8,it goes under the pin header and does the job of a hand full of seperate wires, keeps the mod tidy and is flat on the board so there is less chance of it comming loose....baz

happy modding m8.....baz ;)

I'm a newbie to this whole xbox modding things and had recently purchased the 2.6CE with the solderless for v1.6 adapter. There's nothing unsual with the package that the 2.6CE came in but here's the list of parts that I received for the solderless Xapt3r.
1. solderless adapter (of course)
2. the red clamp with red wire hanging off it. This is the Alt 5V wire and NOT the D0 hole that you've been talking about
3. the screw (that split in 1/2)
The above 3 items are the complete list. During the installation of the Xapt3r (v1.6), I did not have to worry about the D0 but simply follow the instruction that I found on the Internet. Here are the steps that I've done.
at www.mod-chip.com, you'll find an ALMOST full manual of how to install the Xapt3r. The missing part is the Alt 5V point. To rectify this, I simply follow the instructions that are freely available at www.teamxecuter.com of how and where to find your Alt 5V on xbox v1.6. Attached the red hook that came with the package to this point and you should be done. I think that one way to test whether you have good contact or not is when you power on the xbox, you should see 5 lights (corresponded to A,B,C,D & E). Once I have this working, then proceed to install the 2.6CE chip.
Good luck

I already opened it up and it's probably pretty obvious I tried to install it. I figure I'll chalk it up to experience. I'm just glad I don't have to buy a whole nex x-box!

And seriously, thanks for all your help. You and the others that responded have been incredibly helpful. I just wish I'd contacted you all BEFORE I'd purchased the equipment. You guys take it easy.
