Installed X3CE with 3.03 bios, I tried to flash from HD, the EVOX bios and now I do not get a screen up at all on the fast boot (pop the power on button), I also get the 05 Error when I boot to the hard drive (hold power on for 2 sec). Dips set to OFF, ON, OFF, OFF. Any help would be greatly apprieciated... I have made up a new CD with X3_BIOS but my Xbox does not want to boot from the DVD drive or a utility hard drive (running slayer). How can I get back to the original BIOS 3.03 screen?

I'm going to make a couple of guesses here...

Your originally booted off, on, off, off, off and you used the 3.0.3 flash bios. SO you have a 1.6b

Then you flashed the wrong evox bios to your xbox... on the same bank. I'm going to assume you didn't change your switch settings before your flashed...

You should of used the x3 bios for ver 1.6 xbox's but you used an old evox bios that prolly came out before the 1.6's did!

So now you are in for some work. You do not have a working bios on your chip for a 1.6b... you overwrote it.

You are going to have to find someone with a x3 install on a non 1.6b chip. That person is going to have to boot your chip with on, off, off, off, off which will go into the 3.0.1 flash bios.. and flash the second bank back with 3.0.3 then boot back into the first bank and flash it with x_3029_ver1.6_plus or the latest x3 bios...

Good luck!

Thanks Catalyst, it looks like I really screwed this up. So, if I understand this correctly, I'll have to install my chip in a working non-1.6b (how to tell between a 1.6 & 1.6b?), boot the xbox with on, off, off, off, off... to enable flashing again,,,, but if the bios is messed up on my chip, how is the xbox going to boot, off the hard drive or the other bank? Is there anyway to boot off a configured hard drive or DVD to get the flashing done (bios manager?) ?

Thanks your post is a great help and I'll be posting very positive rep points!

3.0.1 will boot occasionally on a 1.6B I thought. I've been told it may take up to 50 tries but it can boot if you try long enough and are patient.
AFAIK it's the other way around- you can get 3.0.3 booting on a 1.6..

Thanks EntwinedWithSickness, if I am lucking getting it to boot to 3.0.1, do the switch settings need to be on, off, off, off, off?

I am trying to boot the xbox, with on, off, off, off, off, no screen is displayed, chips flashes red then stays blue, but no screen.... when booted using off, on, off, off, off the box tries to turn on 3 times before the system stays on and the chip stays blue and again no screen.....

Thanks Martin, this is the first time I am working with this chip, I have worked with many others but not the Executer. If the backup bios is envoked by holding the power on button for 2 secs, then the Xbox boots (with no Bios logo) until it access the hard drvie which displays Error 5. Is there another way to boot the backup bios?

Thanks agin Martin, yes I tried this as well (chip is red and blue at the same time) and it performs the same way the initial boot does (no display) where the chip stays blue and no display.

So you've definitely got a 1.6b..

What size BIOS did you flash initially?

If it was less than 1MB, then try booting from bank 4 256k. You may be lucky and still have 3.0.3 on there.

Yes, the backup bios has been tested and performs the same way the main bios does, no display. Is there any chance of resuing this xbox or do I have to stick the chip in another xbox to get it booted? I am really not sure how that will work without a bios runnnig?

Hey, thanks Martin, your the man!!! I booted from bank 3 and then 4 and I have a BIOS 3.03 on both so the original bios that I loaded was less than 512K Now, I'll do some more reading as I think that I am down to a few less options here.

Can you recommend a bios for me, I want to play games in debug, for testing purposes. And be able to boot to the hard drive, I'll be loading Slayer 2.6 Final there.

Thanks again for getting me back in the game!

Right - now you have a working FlashBIOS, do your best to keep it.

I think I told you wrong to begin with - am I right in saying they are on bank 7 and 8 256k? In other words, does it work when you set switches to off off off on?

If this is the case, then before flashing a new BIOS, set your switches to on on off off. You'll keep that FlashBIOS on Bank 8.

I don't do much debug work - so I can't really advise.
