hello,

i recently, purchased my X3 chip online and when i received it all was well until i tried to chip it. what happen was my soldering for the lpc 9 pin header was lop sided when i chipped it and i didnt notice but when i plugged in the chip the solder in the back came off th pin dropped down on some of them and some stay on so right now im trying to desolder them and i booted the xbox with out the hd or DVD rom installed to get the flashbios window but i didnt instead it boot up the xbox logo and then gave me an error 07.

I was wondering if this is a LPC soldering issue and should i be seeing a flashbios right away if i have installed the chip correctly? im pretty much lost currently and i m also trying to use a 160 HD on my xbox how do i go about unlocking it because i dont understand what i have to unlock or lock? if some one can help me its greatly appreciated !

Thanks

Dont worry, error 7 means there is no HD connected. Get all your lpc pins back in place, make sure your d0 is connected. And then boot with the chip enabled, and you should see flashbios.

after u get your chip in a flash your bios, then worry about ur HD. You will need to install it and then LOCK it, flashbios can do this. Then you can install your dashboard on it.

No it doesnt have to be exact....as long as all pins are connected to the chip, some CAN be a little higher or lower than the others its ok just dont force them u or down. Desolder using desoldering braid. Just keep at it till all the solder is gone. And for soldering i do it lke this. Tough my soldering iron right at the base of the board on one sde of the pin, and my solder to the other, the pin heats, melts the solder, and it flows nicely into the hole. do this for every pin, the test pin for secureness by gently pressing down on each.

Hope this helps

First attempt

I known a lot of people don't like to answer the same questions over and over so I did some reading and want to make sure I am on the right track.

I just picked up a used 20GB 360 and plan on modding it. It seems like it has a Benq drive and from previous posts it seems that it is not that bad to flash. It seems like I should be using LT 1.1 Plus for my firmware. I have a relative that has a 360 with something 1.6 running; I forget the correct name.

The thing is, this 360 has a very old dashboard. If I upgrade to the newest one, can I still mod the firmware on the 360 after. From what I have read, it seems that I can.

I also see the acronym FW used around. I however can't seem to find what it means... does it just stand for firmware? Why do some 'backup' games have FW at the end of them?

I am still reading about the AP25 and Abgx topics to see what they are. It has been a while for me to get up to date on this information.

Thanks to those who find the time to reply.

Cheers,
AMC

Re: First attempt

Just what version dashboard are you talking? To jtag an xbox you have to have a dash older than 2.0.8. Anything 2.0.8 and up is not jtagable.

Re: First attempt

Whereabout did he mention Jtagging? From what i read he just wants to mod the drive for backup usage.

Benq drives are possibly the easiest and quickest drive to flash :)

yes the firmware mod LT+ will work on any dashboard.

FW is short for firmware, tho im unsure why they'd put that at the end of whatever i was you've been looking at (piracy is not to be spoken about on here)

AP25 is short for Anti Piracy 2.5 which in basic terms is a piece of coding on the drive which allows or denies certains discs playing depending on the answer given by the disc when prompted by the drive.

ABGX is a piece of software you install on your pc in order to scan discs\ ISO files to make sure the software contained in it is valid.

Any more questions feel free to ask, we all had to start at the beginning at one point nd i dont mind helping out at all :)

Re: First attempt

Thanks Pheonix for the detailed response.

I thought Jtagging was the same as flashing.... more reading I guess.

Hopefully this will be easy to flash. I read about making sure that the drive is connected to the computer with its own power source. Luckily I have a 2 red ring arcade that doesn't work obviously so I guess I can use that to power it.....?

So if I run the newest dashboard update from Microsoft through the USB key method I can still flash the drive after? Does the dashboard update contain a kernel change as well like Automag mentioned?

Thanks in advance.

Re: First attempt

No problem AMCAMC, i remember when i started out and you ask a question and get nothing but smart ass remarks back because of the know it all attitude some people have, we all have to learn and sometime google just doesnt give you the answers your looking for or just takes to long and the answers you do get are sometimes alittle too over your head to understand :)

yes the update updates the kernel, the dashboard look and other bits and pieces, Its basically to bring the console up to date so that it can respond to the Kinect controller

Wow, Jtagging allows you to do a lot more. Dunno if I want to start soldering things....
i would highly consider selling that xbox then

jtaggable consoles bring quite a hefty price, as they are fairly rare

but also, Jtagging is pretty cool, i'd suggest you try it out......for SCIENCE!

Re: First attempt

Ya I understand. I end up helping out people a lot on computer information and problems on forums. There are a lot of smart ass comments on the matter. When it is not constructive I just ignore it.

Ok, let me make sure this is right.

If I update the console then I can't do the Jtag mod, correct? But if I update the console then I can still mod the dvd drive firmware to run backup games, correct?

Joe I would consider selling the box since I got it at a great price. The only problem is that people selling xbox's in my area on classifieds over exaggerate the price quite a bit. It's in great condition unopened and not RROD. The lady had it in a box for a year.

Around how much does it cost to Jtag? I just need the resistors and diodes correct?

Re: First attempt

correct, if you update = no JTAG

still possible to mod dvd drive though

to JTAG, you could spend 50 buck to buy an NAND-X which is a USB programmer

however, if your computer has an LPT port, you can build your own LPT cable with just some wires and resistors

you will spent probably 10 bucks (or less) at a radio shak if you build your own LPT cable

the soldering isn't too bad actually

Re: First attempt

K makes sense.

Soldering is not bad since I have done it before.
I should be able to get the parts for free to so if those are the only parts I need I should be fine. I just need to get my dad's computer since it has a LPT port.

It is more work but after reading more and more about homebrew software, it is more interesting.

Thanks for info guys, I'll update route later.
