Ok gang, so long time PS2 user and modder here. Iv decided to jump on board, (no pun intended) and grab a 360. I grabbed a used 360 with a stuck disc tray off of ebay for close to nothing. With the tray and the system working I am quite anxious to customize. Water cooling and case modding is on the list but for now I am more concerned with homebrews, Xlive and modchips.
I read the newbies guide and found it quite helpful and well written. So with firmware understood I am fairly certain I wanna mod and hold off on flashing my Toshiba-Samsung(MS25) all together.
Better yet here’s what I’m hoping to accomplish. Hopefully my misconceptions and confusion can be deciphered and explained. One of the reasons I was drawn to the 360 was its library of online games, so XLIVE is a must for me. I want the ability to play my backups (I cant afford the games twice) and the ability to play avi’s as with SMS media player for PS2.
I read an article that gave an excellent break down of how to boot with flash and non-flashed modded consoles to access xlive. But then it went on to explain bios, .xbe files and evolution X they lost me. Damn just when I thought I was getting it. So am I to understand the easiest most stable is to have a soldered modded flashed console with a on/off switchable chip that has a Bios. I will need to boot my backups then turn the chip off then access XLIVE?? If so how does Evolution X, bios and xbe files come into play, further more when I restart the console with the chip off how will I boot my backup.
Hopefully I didn’t ask to many dumb question but I honestly did try and research. I ask for your patients as I try to make the transition from PS2 modding and homebrews to XBOX methods and concepts..
Thanking all that reply in advance.

Looks like I spoke to soon. It appears the tray wont stay closed. There seems to several posting of this problem, I even saw a video on youtube, but no mention of a solution. So once again, any help is much appreciated.
