Installed the 2.6ce chip ok on a 1.6 xbox - had a few solder problems but the blue screen came up ok in the end. After a month of searching found the files i need and made up the bios no prob (m8_v1.6 not m8+) put BIOS.BIN and DUMP.TXT on few different cd's using NERO Express but failed to recognise. Tried a DVD using Roxy recognised the DVD but said no bios found or something. Had flash protect off and bank on 1 (my guide said any bank would do). So reset the x box and i have lost my blue screen. Back to square 1 blank screen i and red and green flashing eject button that I had when I soldered incorrectly. Have I killed it?

If so my advice to anyone with a 1.6 box (leave it to the experts - pay the money)

Ok, first of all don't tell people that it took you a month to find a bios... it's embarrassing. :)

Next, use the X2ce bios for the x2 ce...

Now, I'm pretty much sure you have a bad solder job on your hands. Your prolly not getting the right power to the chip.

Go to the second link in my signature and it'll show you how to use a multimeter to check your voltage, desolder and resolder correctly...

Good Luck!

If the soldering looks good, check the switches and the wires. Make sure you didn't pinch a wire. The 2.6 switches are pretty flaky.

if you have a multimeter available check the connections. If no multimeter resolder all the connections to the rebuild PCB. If that doesn't work, resolder the connections going into the chip. And ffs, use xbins to get the bios! Get the latest M8+ that's available or the newest X2 should work as well. and READ, you have to name the bios BIOS.BIN when flashing from disk, although flashing over your network is a heck of a lot easier!!!!
